Muffler Disappointment

I've looked all throughout these forums and haven't found too much on what I have been looking for. I was trying to get some information on the Hooker Aero Chamber muffler.

I found some info on it and everything I found was favorable. I went ahead and bought one and had it installed a couple days ago. I have to say I am pretty disappointed in my decision.

I originally had a Flowmaster on the truck and liked the tone but after a while it would get kind of annoying. I also wanted something different. I used to have Magnaflow on the truck but wasn't too happy with it and in my town it seems like every truck that isn't stock sounds like a Flowmaster.

The Hooker sounds just like the Flowmaster but just a good amount quieter.

Does anybody have experience with this? I know these things need to break in a little bit but will it change all that much?

Kind of a big bummer...........

You could add hi-flow cats to louden it up.

since youve gone through magnaflow and flowmaster, have you thought of straight pipes, dynomax bullets, or 10series flowmasters? those would increase the volume quite a bit.

I wasn't looking for volume as much as a different type of tone. My Flowmaster was nice and loud but just very unoriginal.

As far as replacing the cats, that's just too much of a project that I want to do. I was kicking around the idea of going with true duals but I would rather spend the cash for a lift down the road.

I guess I just had high hopes that I would get this new muffler and it would sound unique.

I noticed that Bassani now sells just a muffler. Anybody have any experience with one of those?

I put a lot of miles on my truck and I have a feeling it's going to **** me off when ever I'm in there thinking about it.

I had a spin-tech on my Expedition and loved it. That was my first choice after getting rid of the stock muffler but several shops warned me that they had issues.

I'm mechanically stupid so I'm not sure exactly what they were referring to but if I remember correctly it was about a back pressure issue.

Those are a trip too; the muffler for my Expedition was tiny. Sounded awesome though.

Try Borla. By far the best i've used/seen. I previously had a flowmaster, and my friend with the 5.4L has a magnaflow.
