Power loss on removing rear cats

Does any one know what kind of power loss we are talking about when removing the rear cats on an '04 5.4L. I keep hearing you lose torque, but how much we talking, 5-10ftlbs? Can you even feel it or does it really show up when pulling a trailer? The same is true about Flowmaster mufflers, I hear you lose torque also-why is that? I really like the sound of them, but I don't understand why you would lose power with a performance muffler. Sorry for so many questions. I'm just really confused about all of this. Thanks

They say they are performance muffler, but they aren't, their sweet noise producing mufflers. Performance mufflers for 1, are straight through, not chambered. I had Flowmasters on my old Silverado, Super 44s, and pulled the same boat with it twice, one with the stock exhaust ( 3" duals, DI/DO muffler factory, 2500HD model ) then swapped the muffler for the Super 44s and dual tailpipes, my rpms were about 230 - 300 higher, and on a long distance that shows up well on the fuel gauge.

As for the cats, I pulled my rear ones, gained some sound and mpg numbers, but my torque hasn't changed, still feels the same. But it has not improved. Might have decreased by a couple pounds if anything, nothing noticeable, its just more restriction removed.

Thats what I've been wanting to here about the Flowmaster. I always thought the same on the straight through vs chambered mufflers, but wasn't sure if I was just smoking something or not. As for the cats, I do believe he's mainly looking for more sound and less restriction. Thanks

Yeah chambered mufflers have baffle plates, and those interupt the flow path, thus slowing down the gas escape quickness.

I removed the rear cats on my 04 at the same time I put on 2 14" center in center out magnaflow (straight through so zero restriction like a straight pipe but has sound dampening material in the muffler) and noticed zero difference. Just sounds better and quieter then just running the straight pipes I had.
