Bad exhaust smell after installing new exhaust

I swapped out my stock exhaust for a Flowmaster 50 series. 3 inch pipe and tip. Side exit infront of passenger tire for my 97 Lariat. It sounds good and the truck runs fine but man. It seems to be really smelling bad. like more exhaust. Very strong. I ran with my window open to hear and it was bad. Then let the truck sit for a while, drove to work and when my friend hoped out of the passenger seat and was like man thats strong..

I had an exhaust shop install it. Anyone know what the deal is?

New leak in a cat weld joint? Or the shop possibly used too much mandrel grease while bending the pipes?

Start looking around the welds for any missed places. I'm sure that the shop will fix it free of charge seeing as they did sh** work.

I see why you smell more exhaust, side exit in front of passenger tire. That explains it.

Come on, man, don't be a mod hypochondriac.

Yeah, but you have better flow now. I believe all muffler shop work smells for a while, and after break in it shouldn't stink much more.

The mandrel grease smell will be gone after a couple hundred miles. x2 on go under and inspect for cat converter welds. It could be possible that your cats are shot and may need replacement soon enough. CEL on?

...funny stuff...

I kept the stock up-front side exit on my '97 too. Except instead of one rusty pipe there's two stainless tips there now.

My magnaflow had the new muffler stink for a hundred miles or so too, now it's back to normal.

Good to hear, maybe it was the mandrel grease. The more your foot is in it the quicker that grease scent will expire also. On my old Silverado when I got the pipes done, I didn't floor it alot because money was tight and paying $3.50 a gallon for gas wasn't either, but the grease smell went away, but one day i floored it and hit 6000rpm and when I got out the scent returned There was some more in there.
