2 1/2 compared to 2 1/4

I have a 2005 Screw, when I bought it, the previous owner had 2 1/4 inch tubing from the cats back, dual setup. I dont like the raspy sound though and was thinking about throwing some Flowmaster super 40s on there with an H pipe, to hopefully give it a nice rumble. Would there be a big difference in sound if i swapped everything out to 2 1/2 compared to the 2 1/4? or should i just leave it with the new mufflers and H pipe?

The sound change will come mostly from your mufflers (and H-pipe).

The sound difference from 2.25" pipes to 2.5" pipes is minimal.

Yeah stay with 2.25, more than that on true duals is a bit overkill. An X or H pipe would probably help balance out the sound quite a bit and make it less raspy.

I have 2.5" piping with true duals on 2 14" round magnaflows, x-pipe, ans 2 18" 3.5" tips.. It runs fine for me, and I love the sound.. very subtle driving at normal speeds, but it gets loud when I want it.. it has a nice deep low rumble, not raspy or crackly at all..

as far as the dif between 2.5 and 2.25 piping.. I can't say from experience, but I just went with the 2.5" on a whim, and it's worked out pretty well for me.. In hindsight, I suppose 2.25" piping might be a tad be a tad bit better, for the whole back pressure thing.. but I can't tell.. and any difference in sound or performance would be very minimal..

I have an AF1 intake, 4.56 gears, and an X3.. so even with the big tires and lift, my truck has plenty of get up and go.. and sounds mean doing it

There's an exhaust clip in my signature, check it out if it helps.

ok, so i decided to go with two flowmaster 40 series mufflers and held up on the h pipe. compared to what this thing had before, straight pipe-no muffler, this is way quieter. i was expecting at least a decent deepish tone and came up way short. with how it sounds im not completely convinced an h pipe will give me what i'm looking for. Opinions?

An H-pipe will not give you more sound over true-duals (no crossover). It will actually take some of the "rumble" away.

But an H pipe, or an X pipe will balance out the sound from the two banks coming together, it will be almost as loud, but won't have the "Harley" popping sound that true duals sometimes have.

an h pipe will make it almost as loud, but an x quiets it down, did on my 5.4 and on my 5.0 gts, going to an x really toned it down

The H pipe does a fair enough job, the X is a much better cross flow though. My Silverado did good with its H piped true duals.

I had an X pipe on my 350 in a 69' Wagoneer, I set car alarms off when I took off from a red light.

Go for the setup Zeruin, myself, and others have done. I LOVE the sound mine gives off. Only difference between mine and Zeruins is that I've got 2.25" piping rather than 2.5".
