Replace stock mufflier w/ aftermarket w/ Turn Downs? Pros? Cons?
Replace stock mufflier w/ aftermarket w/ Turn Downs? Pros? Cons?
Hey everybody, I am looking at adding an exhaust to my 05 FX4 and am not wanting to spend the ridiculous prices that most places want for a SI/DO setup, much less the premade catbacks.
While I was test driving trucks, I drove a FX4 with just a flowmaster in place of the stock one with turn downs welded to the outlets of the muffler. The truck sounded great and didn't seem to be too drony or resonate too much.
I was strongly considering doing the same thing as I think in some cases no exhaust coming out the back keeps the look clean and can still be legal this way too. This of course would make things MUCHO cheap and get a good sound too.
What would be the downsides to doing this? Without tips I know the sound would be different and I know that there is a risk of fuel buildup and other buildup under the truck as well. I do drive this truck daily for work, so I dont want it to be too terribly loud or drony inside the cab.
Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated. Sound clips would be awesome too if you have any.
Thanks!

I don't really see any drawbacks at all to running that setup. That's what I've run on all of my trucks. I've never had any kind of buildup under the truck though. Sounds good, looks clean, it's a win win if you ask me.
I dont like turn downs personally because I like the look of nice tips on a truck, but, thats where money is spend, which I understand you dont want to spend alot.
There aren't any downsides to it, as long as you are running cats it wont smell too harsh at idle, and underneath might get a little black. A moajority of videos on Youtube with F150s running Super 44s, they have them dumped..

Go with the Super 44 Flowmaster.

Thanks for the help guys. Big help already!
For me I understand that quality oftentimes comes with the additional cost, but if I can keep this legal (in TX exit after passenger compartment is legal), and can not have any tips, which is what I want, and can keep it rather inexpensive, I think that's what I'll do.
Thank you again for the help!
