14" magnaflow and cai help power much?

I have a new to me 2005 4.6 supercab, stock. I like the truck very much, but find it slightly under powered. A small but noticeable increase in performance seems like it would be enough to keep me happy. Will the Magnaflow and CAI probably do the trick? Thanks in advance for any help. Steve

An exhaust will not increase performance, but it frees restriction for better exhaust flow for other performance modifications to funtion better. The CAI will bring in more air and be slightly better, if you look into a custom tune you will get great performance results with a CAI and exhaust.

A better flowing catback will free up HP/TQ and a little MPG, but mainly sound much better than the stock exhaust. With a cai it is suggested to have a custom tune because the factory computer settings can't properly compensate for more air intake and your engine will run too lean I guess. I ran a catback and cai for about a year without a tune (I didn't know). I know have a gryphon and I'm waiting on custom tunes from PHP.

The lean issue is for the 3v engines only. The 4.6 in the f150 is a 2v.

Possibly a stupid question but how would I know if I have a 3v vs 2v? My truck is a 2004 5.4 new body style. Is that enough to tell? Is there a marking somewhere I can use to tell?

Interesting, Troyer made it sound like some 2004's were 2v.

The only 2004+ V8s that are 2v are the 4.6s.

The 04 heritage is a 2v.

The easiest way to tell the differnece is that it is only the new body style 5.4's have the 3v heads.

I just did CAI and exhaust and there is pretty much zero performance gain on my 5.4. I can feel a bit better torque off the line but my 0-60 is nearly exactly the same. I'll be ordering a tune Monday from VMP. That is where the gain should be.

My numbers jumped up quite a bit with mandrel bent headers/exhaust - at least 20 HP/ Closer to 30 I bet. I didn't Dyno, but picked up 6 seconds 0-80.

I could throw the wheels over from a dig when I ran the Magnaflow no problem. Running a Flowmaster now with the system. It won't even bark the tires - But it sounds good. I need a better cat back.

You can gain from a good set up, A good start -

1. Intake.
2. exhaust/LT headers.
3. tune.

It's possible to do all that under a grand.
