Question New truck, what first

I have a new 08 F150 FX2 with the 5.4 flex fuel motor. I would like to increase the performance with out losing mpg. What would be the first mod
I should do. As money is tight I will have to do my mods one at the time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check out tuners and custom tunes. It's a fairly large initial investment ($500) but will make your truck a much better performer. It also satisfies your goal of improving your mpg, if you can keep your foot off the go pedal.

Looked into Troyer, they will furnish SCT X3 with canned tunes and write 3 custom tunes
of my choice for $449, Do you think this is a good investment? And after the tune do I go
CAI or Exhaust mod.

Magnaflow exhaust, S&B intake, VMP custom tune, and dont break 2300rpms too often and you should see 15 - 17 average.

As long as you keep your foot out of it, mileage won't decrease and it may even increase very slightly. More so, mileage depends on driving habits...

I have true-duals, AF1, and oversized tires (33's) and get those mileage figures.

For your first mods, I would recommend either an aftermarket intake system or a cat-back exhaust system.

Exactly what I was going to say
Plus VMP tunes are the cheapest while still giving you equal performance and drivability upgrades for only $400.

Just flash it back to stock when you take it to the dealer... problem solved.

I keep my truck about 2000RPMs and it gets 15-17 mpg. When the foot goes down its like someone put my gas tank under the hood and turned it upside down. I'm excited to see what a new tune and bigger injectors does to the mpg. But honestly, any mod you do other then lift or big heavy rims/tires will keep your stock MPG or make it better. your right foot will make the MPG go down. Its real hard not to because of the added power.

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks for the input, I'm from the old days before electronics. Carbs, cams
ect. I appreciate everyones input, and if you will bear with me, maybe I
will be able to turn this truck into something nice to leave my grandson and
have some fun doing it.

Thanks

I thought they could still detect that you had changed something though?

not if you flash it back like the day before. i would get your intake, exhaust before you get your tune so they can tune your truck much better for your mods.

i would recommend VMP the wait is not nearly as long and their just as good. i have had vmp for 6 months and 10k and love it.

x2, and in this order, Exhaust, Intake, then Tune. Try not to run the intake un-tuned for more than 1 month, and get exhaust first because more forced induction going through OEM exhaust = restricted performance/unhealthy for engine.
