air intake effect exhaust sound?

Ok so I just got a sick custom exhaust system installed on my 04 fx4 and it sounds great...smooth and no drone. The guy that installed it told me that a cold air intake will make it louder if i want. My question is first of all is this true, and if so which brand will give me the biggest sound improvement and better gas mileage as well?

A Cold Air Intake ( CAI ) will make the note a bit deeper and provide a better scavenging pressure, but, on 04+ 5.4Ls you need to get a custom tune in order to have a CAI, due to the MAF.

I would recommend the Banks Intake, but now it seems like I need to get myself a tuner and custom tune for the truck too since mine is an 04?

will it just throw a code? or do i really need a tune?

Ideas as to where to get from would be great...i only know for mustangs.

I have an S&B CAI as well as a VMP Tuned XCal3, and it definitely changed the exhaust note, a very positive change in my opinion. It got a little deeper and meaner, it's great.

I'm running the AirAid Modular Intake Tube with a drop in K&N Filter...
And now a Magnaflow Muffler 12258...

By " custom tune " does this mean the same as the edge etc...
When I get an Edge or a differant programer...

And which programer should I get if that's all I need??

Thanks... Sorry if that last part was stealing a thread...

O4 no Tune Runs great!

I have an 04 with an AFE Stage 2 Cai and a Gibson single exhaust and My truck runs great! I have towed a 4500 lb trailer for many thousands of miles with no problems. Been to the ford Stealership for trans service and they said it ran great. I have cruised at 63 mph with a trailer( OD off) all day and I mean all day and it still runs great! Took it to a local shop to test to see if it had the right air/fuel thing going on and they said it was fine. The truck is silent at idle and has a nice throaty roar at wot.
I have read that some 04 trucks need a tune and that might be the case but I know mine does not, though I might get one (TUNE) just for more power, nothing wrong with more power but I must say I am compleatly satisfied with my 150 as it sits in the driveway and would have no problem heading cross country with it manana>
