more header questions

Hi, new to the forum, not really new to the truck. I have had my 99 EB Expedition for a couple years and about 100k miles. The only things done so far are maintenance, a 3 inch block/torsion bar crank and a Maggy cat back. I am looking to fix the typical exhaust problems.

I want to go LT and maggy high flow cats. I have seen pics of a guy here at f150 forums that did this with the stock y-pipe and it looked like it turned out ok. The other option would be the obx setup with resonators replaced with high flow cats. Both of these options will end up bieng over 500 in parts alone. The questions are these,

1. All the sellers of the obx setup on ebay say they wont fit the expy, will they?

2. The only reasonable set of LT headers I have seen are the pace setters and are not stainless, The rest of the exhaust is stainless should I stick with that or consider the Pace setters? I dont really want rust issues again, the manifolds look like they are going to be a nightmare.

3. Im probably going to be clamping most of this, at least initially, want to make sure I dont develop a leak at the header and have everything welded solid so I cant service it. Would I be better off welding the cats to the y and clamping at the collector?

I know this has been discussed a million times and I know what Im looking to achieve and that this is the set up Im looking for, the shorty headers and keeping 4 cats seems like a complete waste of time to me. I am just seeing very limited options for LT headers unless I want to spend 1500+ on the dynatec setup. Which is exactly the end result I want but 1500 is just retarded for 500 bucks worth of parts.

Im not looking for true duals or anything that is going to be stupid loud, I got the biggest body maggy muffler for a reason. I love the deep mellow tone without the loud raspy popping. I know going from 4 cats to 2 and headers its going to get a bit louder but hopefully that 22inch maggy will keep it under control.

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks in advance guys.

In the end, it will probably be as loud as my truck is now, which is perfect, not too loud, not too quiet, real deep.

The LTs would be great. There really isn't a difference from Expedition to F150 engine and underbody, the only difference is 2wd and 4wd, which the 4wd differs because the pipe bends differently to clear the transfercase. To my knowledge, all 97 - 03 V8s are interchangable when it comes to headers, so Lightning headers will fit your Expy.

Guess I should have put that info in too huh, sorry wasnt thinkin. Its a 5.4 4x4. And thanks Darren for the quick response. I though the same thing, in the engine compartment there is no difference from a pickup to a expy. I cant see how there would be any difference, everything else interchanges including the engine.

If the OBXs are for a 99 to 03 F-150 5.4 4X4 they should fit your X.
Or you could keep a look out for some used stainless headers.

I paid $700 for my Kooks headers but you can get them new for around 800.

They look pretty nice! I know alot of the Camaro/Trans Am, GTO, Corvette guys like Kooks headers, I had kinda hoped the price would be a bit lower though But you get what you pay for right.

for 900 bucks I think Id just got with the dynatecs, there are a set of them on ebay right now for 600 and a full lightning/harley setup on craigslist for 1000. I just dont want to have to run duals all the way out. Im perfectly happy with the maggy si/so catback that I have, I just want to fix the leaky manifolds and eliminate the 4 cats for 2. It seems to me that the easiest way to do this is with LTs and high flows. I just dont want it rusting out on me like I think the pace setters will.
