Best Exhaust for towing

Ok I have a 04 F-150 screw with a 5.4. My question what is the best exhaust set up for towing. I have a Gryphon and 3.73 gears and my truck tows great but my exhaust is getting pretty ugly looking and will need to be replaced soon. I have kids and a wife and do not want anything loud. I have seen some post by other saying with the wrong set up you can loose HP and TQ and I do not want to do this I would like to gain some HP and TQ. Thanks for the replys.

OEM is a decent setup for the low and mid range torque, but a flow through muffler would be much better. The 18" Body Magnaflow would be a good replacement, SI/SO offset both ends.

I would almost recommend the 22" body, but I believe the 18" will be just fine.

Noise level I think, and during cruising and towing though the 18" is barely noticeable. The thing I like about it though is that you get rewarded with a nice deep rumble when you put your foot down

Leave it stock or the 22" Magnaflow with mandrel bent tubing.

Yes. Its quieter than stock at idle, but gives a nice quiet noise when accelerating which stock doesn't, an interior noise will be low.

I love my Maggy catback system, I did a best offer of 375 to a seller on ebay that had it listed for 510 and got it. that was shipped, Its the 22inch body,3 inch pipe and 4 inch tip. I love the way it sounds, its quiet when you want it to be but if you stand on it, say up an on ramp or off a street light is has a nice deep growl. I am getting ready to cut off the cats and put headers and highflow cats on. Im hoping it doesnt get to loud after that. and it only took about 30 minutes start to finish to put it on.

Gibsons sweptside is a quite system and flows better then the factory exhaust. I towed a 29ft camper with my old '97 and I could hardly tell there was an aftermarket exhaust on my truck. Its not much louder then stock but has a deeper tone.

They also recommend a side exit exhaust for towing so the exhaust is not directed towards the object being towed.

deffinantly have a side exit either behind or before the tires.

Do not increase your pipe size except at the tip
