Cherry Bomb Vortex? opinions?? F150

Just called my local shop and referred me to a cherry bomb vortex muffler for my F150. They also deal with our Dodge dealership and thats what they put on all the Hemi's, CB vortex catbacks.. I'm wondering if this is a good sounding muffler for my SC F150, over the Magnaflow? Or should I go to another muffler place?? Any insight on these mufflers would be greatly appreciated......

If you do think this is a nice sounding muffler, should i stick with the 2 1/2, offset, SI/SO, 14"case??

John

I dont like the sound on most vehicles. The Cherrybomb Extreme is better than the Vortex, but thats just me. I think the Extreme is cheap and wouldn't ever buy it.

Heres a video of the Vortex on an F150 5.4L.

I would stick with Flowmaster if you want a rebel rumble, or Magnaflow for performance/economy gains and a sweet low & deep sound.

Thanks dude! Yeah what I don't want is popping (backpressure), ricer sound and a decrease in mpg.. So from all that I take it Magnaflow is the winner.. Much appreciated!

Yeah chambered mufflers will give a little crackle at WOT, but sounds quite nice, not to say a straight through Magnaflow doesn't either. I went from 15.3mpg to 16.2 with my Magnaflows.

And no matter what goes on it, a V8 will never sound ricey

Only problem I have is all my muffler places don't carry magnaflow, the best place around still recommends the vortex.. Not sure what to do.. still searchin youtube for a setup like mine but can't find anything.. The vortex is a lifetime warranty, much like others but I don't want my already horrible mpg to suffer, I want gains other then sound...

So with that dilemma, would the vortex be an overall good choice? Would the pros outweigh the cons?

Well due to the fact that the Vortex is a chamber system, and an odd one at that, I wouldn't ever go with one for gains.

What you should do is buy your parts online ( muffler(s) and tip(s) ) and take them to the shop, have them install for a much cheaper price, that way, you know how much you paid, its much cheaper, just takes a couple days for UPS/Fed Ex to ship it all. I wouldn't buy off the shelf until I knew what the price numbers and negotiations would be compared to buying online.

Amazingly enough not 1 part/muffler dealer around here sells magnaflow mufflers, most never even heard of them..lol.. Most of the muffler specialists carry dynomax (with none instock lol). The problem with ordering online is shipping/customs to Eastern Canada (pain in the A$$).. So my only option is the Vortex or stock..

Should I get it or would I be better off leaving it stock??

Darren, thx for chiming in, much appreciated...!

hmmmm, well in that case, if the Vortex is all you could get, go with it. Anything is better than stock, and i'm sure the Vortex will out-flow the OEM pig muffler, just not as best as a straight through one could.

The used 05 FX4 that I picked up two weeks ago has a vortex muffler. It looks like the previous owner had a shop cut out the original muffler and install the vortex. I don't think it sounds that bad. Nice deep tone but not that loud. Don't have much to compare it to, I'd say about the same as the gibson I had on the ram with the hemi I just traded. It is quieter then the magnaflow catback system we had on our focus. Don't know if this helps you or not.

I've got the Vortex catback on my v6 with no complaints, nice rumble at start up and idle, but being a 6 it does get a tad ricey when you get way up in the rpms. I don't know if my mileage suffered because I did a lot of mods in a short amount of time but overall my MPG has improved but I can't say for certain if the catback helped or hindered.

Not the same setup as yours but might give you an idea of the sound.

As far as sound goes dynomax seems to be a little louder under hard acceleration but slightly quieter at idle and while cruising. Still exhaust note is deep and rumbly not ricer weenie, oops I meant winy...check it out - Dynomax power offer
