I know that steel wool burns, so I would try and find some fiber glass.

the stainless steel wool handles temps up to 1200 deg, i dont know what steel wool handles or fiberglass. all i know is the fiberglass packing is pretty much a gone deal, not many companies are still using it.

my main issue with the bullets is they are alumanized steel.
my mufflers will be located right at the back of cab and front of bed.

i think im going to just try the reg steel wool, i dont see how it will catch on fire that far back, only question is will it rust out and become even louder? lol

yeah it might because exhuast pipeing rusts from the inside out so it might do that to you. my bullets have been on my truck for almost 6 months now and the only thing that has rusted is the welds on the muffler it self thats it my cut-outs have more rust then the mufflers. haha thatd be awesome if they lit on fire haha deff get a video of that lol. yeah towards the back the air thats going under the truck cools it off a lil bit. as you can tell by the people who have the duals go by the spare tire it doesnt get hott enogh to even melt the tire. Good luck

what spare tire? you mean that spot i stick my head when rebuilding the rear end of my truck outside? lol

i think i'll break down and buy a 5lb reel of stainless steel wool, question is coarse, medium or fine? if i buy 5lbs i can build these mufflers and then build one to quiet the probe...

No you dont need a probe... they can be such a nightmare to work on, that mazda motor can be a great powerhouse, or a complete pile like the one i bought. they're a little too fun to drive slow too. might be why i lifted the head again, 7k rpm redline is just so fun to play with

yeah the steel wool comes in different coarseness, check it out

yeah i dont plan on doing anyhting to the probe other than oil changes haha if it blows up oh well. a probe or escort or somthing small and gets good gasmilage what bout a 4Cyl ranger? those any good on gas?

i donno what to tell you on the size of the steel wool. thicker is better? ive never made a muffler buy a glass pack for like 10 bucks and rip it apart and see what kind it has in there? lol

my dads running around with 25+ mpg with the 2wd shortbox 89 ranger. not bad for a 2.3L in a box. oh and a probe, no way in hell you'll get away with just oilchanges. the guy before you BEAT on that car. i dont care what they tell u, they beat on it.

those glasspacks always seem to become hallow lol. i think i'll buy the coarse because the shipping will get me up to $70 for 5lbs

Have you thought about the packing that you get in aftermarked quad and dirtbike packing. Not to expansive and can be found at any powersports store. I know my HMF packing is good for 10 years and I know these exhaust systems have to get hot.

I would go coarse too, then you can go a little thicker but still get airflow through it

yes i looked at the loose pack style of packing, problem is being sc'd motor, i just might have enough pressure to cause me to have to repack it relatively soon (not my fav idea lol)
and steel wool per lb is cheaper i think.

i'll be lookin for a reel of coarse SSWool tomorrow after i pickup my 67 fairlane doors.
