I guess I need a new exhaust

For the past few weeks I have noticed a rattle coming from under the truck whenever I would get out and close the door and the exhaust sounded a bit different than normal. I figured the rattle was coming from the exhaust but didn't think much of it. Tonight I was washing the truck and decided to crawl under and see what was going on. It appears I will be getting a new exhaust sooner than I thought because the current one is pretty well rusted out. The rattle was coming from the hanger which was inside of the exhaust pipe where it had rusted through. I went ahead a pulled the hanger out of it's grommet and the exhaust pipe so I don't lose it on the highway.

I don't know what type of exhaust it is. There are no manufacturer stamps or anything on the muffler or the tips.

I was thinking of getting the Roush Offroad but it would probably be cheaper to get a muffler and some tips and have a shop put it on. What do you all suggest I get to replace this exhaust?

Going to be an expensive month. I get Line-X on Thursday. New Bilstein 5100's installed on Saturday and now I need a new exhaust.

Roush off-road will sound great!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3Eh5FAH7BU I should have saved up for it instead of building my own system.

I would really like to do 45 degree exits like your truck Darren but I can't do that with the Roush. I can probably put the Roush on myself though which has me leaning more in that direction.

You can buy the kit, install it, then go to and exhaust shop and tell them to bend the tips to exit side exit. Many people have and its very possible. I was planning to do this when I was gonna buy the Roush, but I couldn't make up the extra dollars for it. And I was gonna put on my Magnaflow tips

Hadn't thought about having the shop bend them to side exit. Do you happen to know how long the tips are on the Roush system? I really like the Magnaflow 4X18 tips and the Roush tips don't look that long.

The Roush tips are 12", much too short. I had 4x12 Magnaflow tips on my old Chevy, 12" looked real tacky. Buy the 4x18s like mine ( 35117 ) and sell the Roush tips for around the price you payed for the Magnaflows.

4x12s

4x18s

Thanks for your help. I was reading another thread where you were helping someone with an exhaust setup and you had suggested a Magnaflow 12198 muffler and the 35117 tips. I think I might just do that and take it to a shop here in town for the install and make sure I get stainless steel pipes.

with tips you can pretty much go anywhere, most shops have some in stock, but usually their not very big, like min their only 3" but their alot better then just the regular pipe stickin out, lookin to change to the 4.5"x18" slash cut tips but the ones i saw were about $50 a piece, haha and if you want really really big tips just get diesel tips haha

Good plan, that will perform well and sound great especially after it breaks in

The reason I dont like buying from a shop is the selection. My shops offer mostly un-branded slash cut tips that dont have the configurations I like. I prefer a rolled edge 4" outlet with a slight slant cut to it, and Magnaflow offers that.

I called Meineke and they are going to charge $275 for the install. Then I called Boubin (I think they only have locations in Iowa) and their rate is $90 for carry in parts. He said it could be around $400. Hopefully Meineke does a good job because I really don't want to pay $400.

I'm using Meineke to do my 14" Magnaflow SI/DO install tomorrow, i'm hoping that place does a good job as well. Not to many other options around here for me.

I just got my truck back from having the exhaust done. It looks great. It is much quieter than I was expecting. Quieter than whatever my previous exhaust was anyway. Before I heard it for the first time I asked the guy at Meineke (who has been doing this for 15 years) if it sounded good and he tells me that it sounds alright but he said he doesn't like Magnaflow mufflers.
He prefers Flowmaster. Hopefully this exhaust gets a bit louder over time or I may have to throw something louder on there.

It will within 1,000 miles, 6,000 is when it will be fully broken in.

Here are a couple of pictures of the new exhaust. When taking these I noticed the driver side is a bit higher than the passenger side.
