Question Is new Intake really worth it?

As you can tell by my newbie status, I am fairly new to this forum, but I have taken great interest in the apperance and performance of my truck since joining. I have recenlty added some bigger tires and chrome wheels along with some other minor chrome items to my truck, now I want to possibly add a new intake. The question I have is, will it really add 8-10 HP or more like the ads say they will? How about give it a "throaty" sound?

Speaking of throaty sound...how exactly do you get that sound? Is it as simple as changing the exhaust?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

In my opinion, an intake is not worth the price.

air intakes

i had a K and n drop in filter and recently put a k and n 57 series intake on my truck. i defiently notice the difference in horses immediatly after putting it on. after putting a whole tank of gas thru my truck, i also saw a lot more mileage out of it.

The cai definitely gives it a good tone. Sounds like a big 4bbl carb suckin' air . I noticed a slight improvement on throttle response and the get up and go of the truck but minor at best which would reflect a minimal gain in hp(maybe the 8-10 you heard about). Now if you add an exhaust and tunes it's flippin' phenomenal!!! I mean HP gains that you "Really" notice!!!!!!

I'll work off of what the guy above me said...

Alone... probably not worth it. But when you link an intake, exhaust, and custom tune together... it'll be more than worth it.

You sound like a salesman

I have an 04 with an AFE intake and have NO problems with it running lean. I picked up about 1 mpg but that is mostly by keeping my foot out of it on the hwy. Just took a 2300 mile trip towing a 4500 lb trailer up thru the North west and loved the power in the hills ( 4000' ) when I hit the sweet spot at 3800 rpms. I ran all day at 63 mph overdrive off (gps speed) and got 11 mpg.
I only tow with the truck and have 45000 miles on it. I had a shop check to see if I was running lean after becoming scared on this forum about my CAI and it checked out A-OK. Get one and enjoy the CAI but they do make noise.)

Sorry but the lcoal Ford Stealership Mechanics did put it on a machine a to check the air/fuel ratio. They did not give me a a specific sheet with the print out. This is the second time I have had this done, The first was at a racing shop where the mechanic did give me a print out but I did not keep the chart. Once I knew I was ok I threw it away. I did not think I would have to prove it to anyone, I just wanted to be safe. This last Time I was having a full service completed before my trip and asked them to check it ( I worry alot ). They said it was just fine and to enjoy my trip which I did. I asked them to check because everytime you mention a Cai Someone says to get a custom tune or your truck will die. I have had my cai and truck that I use for towing for many miles with no problems and want to keep it that way. This is just my expierence and it has been a good one. Anyone reading my post can take from it what they please, just an old guy with a nice truck here.

did you really notice enough difference from the drop k&n to the whole intake? i have the drop in right now, but have been debating whether or not it would be worth the money for replacing it...

As stated, a CAI may not be worth it until you have a exhaust and custom tune.

All the drop in does is replace the old worn OEM filter. There are no gains from it. A CAI kit itself designed to bring air in more directly will give the gains, once opened with an exhaust to match and tune to wake it up ofcoarse.
