i dont have rear cats...

i have a 2004 5.4 3v lariat screw... did my truck comewith rear cats? i bought it used so not sure .. i see the front two cats with sensors.. was wanting to replace muffler with magna or flowmaster for better sound and a muffler shop said sound wouldnt change to much with cats still on... was going to just dump exhaust at rear axle.. what u guys think? thanx

It should have. The sound will change with the cats still on...I don't know what they are talking about. You can dump at the axle...especially if you plan on slamming the truck. I think it looks better with some nice tips sticking out somewhere though. Maybe side sweep them out right after the muffler.

Yes it should have came with 4 cats. Its very possible the previous owner removed the rear cats to louden it up like I did. If your truck has a stock exhaust, the previous owner possibly took his cat-back off for his gain and re-installed the stock.

The sound will definitely change... that guy at the shop must have been high on the scent of welds Every muffler makes its own unique sound, and with cat converters it just clear the sound and resonates it at a certain level.

No problem.

After I got my exhaust done it sounded much better than it did stock, even with all 4 factory cats. It was too calm though, so I yanked the rear ones out an i'm very happy now

Heres how mine looks with the rear cats gone.

if you take the ones out with the sensors will your check engine light come on?


and if so how can you make it go off?

nope. Its solid and has no signs of water or gas leaks.

Yes it will set the CEL off, custom tune will kill it.
