Question Noise....muffler???

I have a noise coming from what I believe is the muffler. I have a flow master single inlet, dual oultlet was on the truck when I bought it, the noise is hard to explain but when i hit the muffler by hand I hear it. It sounds like the muffler/exhaust would be loose and its rattling. I went thru it and its tight, could it be inside the muffler??

The directional baffles commonly break loose and rattle around inside, get rid of that piece of junk flowmaster.

YEA, im thinking thats what it is. What would be a good exhaust to go with? I want a single outlet, not to loud but nice and beefy.

a magnaflow 14" muffler sounds perfect for you, single in, single out, ive heard a 5.4 with a si/so 18" magnaflow (i think it was 18") and it sounded good and wasnt to loud, had a nice "beefy" sound like you want, so im sure a 14" will be more beefy

Yeah ditch the Flowmaster. I would get a 14" single in dual out Magnaflow and fab it onto your tailpipes. Will be more peaceful inside and better sounding outside.

Do u think the mufflers will match up in size, so that I can just unbolt my pipes and put the new muffler in and re bolt? Trying to avoid bringing it to a shop.

just buy some clamps and maybe a turndown, hack the flowmaster off, and clamp the maggie on there and your set

The inlet and outlets sound match up, the difference will be the 14" Magnaflow will be 1" longer than the Flowmaster. So cut 1" extra off the tailpipes, clamp them in.

I measured my flowmaster muffler and its 17" long about 8-9" wide oval. THe exit pipes are 2.5" I guess the inlet is the same? So I should go with the 18" magnaflow with 2.5" inlet and outlet right?

The 14" magnaflow is 20" from end to end, it should work fine. Go with a 2.5" in/out. I suggest check performancepeddler.com, they are the cheapest and offer free shipping on magnaflow

17" body Flowmaster? Thats the 50 series Delta, a 3 chamber. The 18" Body Magnaflow would fit it right, all you would need to do is cut 1" off of the intermediate pipe, then clamp the muffler up. I would still say get a 14" body and have a shop mate it up, it will be louder than the 50 series, or atleast equally loud, and it will sound a hell of alot better! My truck is louder than any 50 series, and I got the 11" bodies.

Not quite there, your canceling out the inlet/outlets on the 50 series, which adds up to 23"s.
