'02 f150 4.2L Exhaust help???
I am wanting to put a good sound on my good looking truck. I went with the v6, so i am not sure what will give it a good clean sound. Not looking for a screaming obnoxious sound, but would like to get a good rumble if i were wanting one. Any tips or opinions???
Honestly V6s do not sound at all good with aftermarked exhaust, only thing I think that is decent on them is the mufflers I despise on V8s, Cherrybomb Extreme, and the Flo-Pro muffler. Or a glasspack, some 6s sound good with glasspacks.
like darren said nothin on a v6 is gonna sound to good, and if your lookin for rumble on a v6, you have the wrong motor, v6 dont rumble they have a ricey sound
yea a single chamber cherry bomb might work, or a 18" glasspack
i had a 4.0 ranger with a glasspack and no cats it was loud as hell and sounded pretty good too, would sound better with cats tho

thanks for the info. im not looking for v8 sound, i just want some clean sound without being reminded of what a weedeater sounds like. thats the price i pay for getting the v6, but since its paid off i wont complain about it. but i appreciate ya'lls help.
hey man nothin wrong with that, you could run a magnaflow or a flowmaster single in dual out and run the tips out back to give it better sound, leave the cats on tho needs all the help it can get lol
Magna Flow SI/DO will sound nice.
And anyone that bases Engine Size on Exhaust is trying to boost their own ego and magical v8.
I had a 4 banger ranger with a custom Magnaflow and it sounded GREAT. Did not sound at all like a ricer.
People need to know that exhaust sound is more of the way it is setup.
With the correct combo your exhaust will sound great.
Dont do true duals, dont dump the exhaust right after the manifolds this will sound like crap.
If you have the money Long Tube 3.8L mustang headers will fit the 4.2 and that will also give a better note.

were not trying to boost our ego, were being for real with the man, v6's rarely sound good with aftermarket exhausts, yea if you spend alot of money on one it will sound good, buddy of mine had a 06 v6 mustang and he spent oodles and oodles of money for his exhaust and it sounded good as hell, and if you will read my last comment i said either a si/do flowmaster or magnaflow with tips ran back
I read that comment however i also read the previous comments that say nothings gonna sound good.
Its funny how someone can slap on headers and a exhaust on a 3.8L V6 Stang and nobody ever thinks its too ricey.
Yes it does take money... but what doesnt? My lift and tires took money also?
Point being How much did you pay for your v8 plus the exhaust? I bet its still close to the same as someones V6 and exhaust... actually probably less on the v6.

but according to the math and jsut saying you went with 2 high flow cats and deleted the other 2.
you spent 8330 on the truck plus the exhaust
I bought my truck for 6k even with 75K miles on it. 1999 4.2 4x4
so i have 2330 to spend to make an exhaust i think i can do it... actually i know i can... and probably for half that.
