newbie here about exhaust.

hey i was checking the forums and was wondering if u guys could help me out a bit.
well i got a 97 f150 4.6
i wanted exhaust and that loud rumble.what is the stock set up for my truck?
im guessing its not true duals.true duals are from each side of the block right have its own route out.wats a good setup where its pretty loud and i want it to not be so loud in the cab im guessing maybe behind the tire at the moment its stock and infront the tire right under the cab.

thanks chee heee!

Your stock set up is not true duals. Your muffler might be a dual in single out. I have a friends who 2000 is that way.

Do true dual with an X pipe, cut off the back two cats, and throw on two 14" maggie's. Its sound great!

X pipe flows the exhaust from both sides of the motor better so it flows evenly in to both mufflers, 14" maggies are magnaflow brand 14" long muffler, maggies dont rumble as much as a flowmaster will i myself am tired of hearing flowmasters, but if rumble is what you want then flowmasters the way to go, i have true dual 10 series flowmasters with a H pipe (equalizer) it rumbles nicely check out the sig

When i put my duals on i cut into the crossover pipe. then ran the two pipes off the cats straight back with nothing on them. The truck is really loud but has a quiet rumble when your not putting your foot into it. When you do put your foot into it, it sounds like a hobby stock race car. I havent put a "x" or a "h" pipe on yet because i like the crackle the straights cause. the x or h pipe would help gas and quiet the system down. hope this helps.

I would say Replicate Ty's ( F150fella's ) exhaust system if you want a good loud rumble. Not to answer his question for him but he does got cats, hi-flow converters by Maganflow which is basically a straight through cat that allows all flow and sound to go through while still complying with EPA & C.A.R.B keeping your engine light off.

If you want real loud, do hi-flow cats with straights http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9QSMtF5xeg

your half right, adding a X or H pipe wont make it, not crackle, it just evens the flow of your exhaust, yes it will idle quieter but will still be loud as all get out when you put your foot to it, x and h just flow better and idle it quieter not make the whole system quieter

If you keep the stock cats and run it out the back it won't be very loud in the cab, you are definatly going to want to go with and x or H pipe. I like the flow sound a lot but everyone around here has it, so I did straights. My truck has the stock cats but it only has 2 while yours has 4 so it would be a quieter than mine. I was driving behind a buddy on the interstate and he said he could hear my truck with him being a couple of car lengths in front of me.
My setup is true duals 2.5" with an x pipe no mufflers exiting lightning style through 3.5" tips.

what do x and h pipes do?
and the plan in my head is true duals 2.5" or should i go 2"(thats for each exhaust mani.2 correct me if im wrong) high flow cats to tips.this is for a 4.6 so i dont want to loose power.

will my engine light go on and does it matter where i route the tips i dont want it too loud in my truck when i pick up chicks i want to be able to talk to them lol.

THANKS A LOT!!
