Loud Idle...

I've already done a search and nothing good came up except my old thread from a ways back but that didnt help.

My friend has an 08' f150 with jba shorty headers no cats and dynomax bullets, and when its just idleing its loud and deep.

The down side is his truck is real sluggish now and the cab noise is so umbearbable!

So what setup should I do to just get a really loud and deep idle??

well the reason for being so loud is cause he has no cats, the shorty headers dont help but for sound if he wanted headers should have gotten long tube headers.

well if u want something thats sounds good reaplce ur four cats with to high flows thats what i did, then get u a 14inch round body magnaflow, dont put dumps or it will be really loud in the cab run it out the back or the side it will sound better

Its loud because A. no cats, B. Dynomax bullets.

Put the cats back in, or better yet, part #94006 hi-flow cats by Magnaflow/CarSound. Will sound much calmer, but still retain that heavy loud throttle sound.

That system really does impress me. Has that Flowmaster original 40 series tone to it in a much more volumed up sound in a 10 series body. I'm wonderous as to how that would sound in a true dual system!

Wow! thats sounds really good thats what my friends truck sounds like.

So you ran 3inch pipe from the headers/ or cats back?

And what muffler is that?

and was it cheap?

Much quieter than the Bullet. But sounds real good under throttle. On a exhaust without cats I would imagine it would still sound loudish.

Well heres the thing he had two high flows but that make not loud enough for him so he took them off!!

Heres a pick of how his exhaust system is ran Im doin the same thing but with a 4 inch tip his is only a 2 1/2.

The exhaust setup looks really good from a different angle.
Where its painted black is where the dynomax bullet is.
Its ran as duals like that on both sides

Btw his parents own one of the biggest Ford dealerships in texas AC Collins Ford

This is whats on his truck:
08' F150 Lariat supercrew 4x4
6 inch Pro Comp Stage 2
Pro comp rims and Tires
Edge programmer
JBA shorty headers
no cats dynomax bullets
Throttle body spacer

Ok I see...

I want it to sound good under throttle...but I'm mainly focused on a loud assed idle

Hey 06XLT Since you went with a 3 inch O.D. piping does that have enough back pressure?

I heard that it was better to run with a 2.50 O.D piping or even 2.25" pipe?

Well sounds like a pretty sweet truck. True duals ran on both sides thats a rare exhaust to see on a truck. Usually the fuel tank interferes. Well heres another guess, if the exhaust was ran out the back, it would be a bit quieter. More exhaust length = quieter.

If its got true duals, then go no larger than 2.5" so the scavaging and velocity remain sound without losing much torque. 2.25" sounds like s**t, will pop like crazy. My 2.5" Magnaflow true duals sound great, its just quiet cause I got the stock cats ( for now )

If he wont run it out the back, well maybe try a different muffler if one will fit, if not, just gotta live with it.

no problems with the 3" pipe-- they even have 3" kits out there for your rangers with little 6 bangers---now if you were to do duals, just like DarrenWS6 said i would stay with no more than 2.5 BTW --3" from where the two factory pipes come together

How did he run the exhuast out the driver side?? isnt the gas tank in the way or did they move it on the New F-150's? ive always wantd to run one pipe out each side before the rear tires but the gas tank is there.

I wish I had a better pic to show you.

But from the picture I posted

I will describe it in the opposite direction.
So it runs from the tip to the Bullet then it runs about another foot then the pipe is curved in under the frame right up to the cats.

It would be real simple actually to put on.
