Help requested...which magnaflow oval muffler to replace my current one
Hi all -
I have an '03 5.4 Screw with the Magnaflow Catback Pn 15609. It sounds good but I'm looking for deeper and meaner (however without crazy drone). Everyone seem to suggest I change the muffler to a 14" (the one that comes with the 15609 system is a 24").
I was curious which one I should get. In looking at the Magnaflow site they have the 4x9" ovals (regular satin stainless). What's the difference between a center/center and a center/offset (in 3" Single in/single out)? I believe the 24" I have now is a center/offset one.
Thanks!

Definitely go with the 14". Nice and hearable under acceleration, smooth and calm at idle. The inlet & outlet configurations dont change sound, mearly just for install fitment. Most true dual systems for these trucks operate better with offset in centetrd out, and since MAgnaflows are reversable they can be the other way around. The 4x9 oval is louder ( just slightly ) than the 5x8 body, the 5x8 body is just deep, not too loud. Go with the 4x9.
Awesome..thanks Darren! That's the info I was looking for. I assume if the catback system I have came with a center/offset muffler I should just get the same style to make installation simpler.
Thanks again
Thanks again
No problem. Yeah that would probably be your best bet. That way it matches the tailpipe up and then the shop can add pipe in to fill up the 10"s of missing pipe.

Here is a vid of a screw with maggie 14's. Sounds awesome.

The only maggie i would ever consider would be the 14" round bodies. I still dont think it would be loud enough for my tastes though.

The rounds are louder than ovals, not by alot but they're supposed to be. Would probably sound like ( or a hair louder ) than my 11" bodys.
Its pretty close. They are just a hair less deep sounding than an oval. If the 11" body was available in a round, I would have gone with that. I would go for the 14" round.
Thanks. I just want to make sure it doesn't have crazy drone inside the cab during long trips (I have a 3 yr old and a 1 year old sitting back there). I still have stock cats for the '03. Again just looking for deeper and louder (yet not overly loud inside the cab) than the 24" maggie that came with the system I have on there now.
Lastly what is the difference between a 4, 5, 6 or 7" round in size 14" Length?

Thanks bud.
I just heard from Magnaflow and they indicated there is really no sound difference between a round and oval of the same size. The difference was mainly for ease of installation reasons. My buddy just called me earlier and said he has a friend that has a 4x9 14" oval (brand new) in his garage that he's not going to use and will just give it to me for free. I guess that just made up my decision.
