has anyone ever just cut off the muffler and put like a turn down on it
if so what does it sound like?
i wanted to do that but i dont want it to sound to bad
i may just have to wait a few weeks and put like a cherrybomb or glasspack or such on there if people thinks it may sound bad

i tell you what id do..id go to a exhaust shop..cut the muffler off get him to put a Y pipe and and run the tips out the back some how..45 degree preferrabily...ive heard alot like that...sounds good as hell but just cut it off and put a turndown...sounds crappy to me..no sound at all atleast with pipe ran back and tips itd have sound..and loudness... or if you want it still legal get a 12" glass pack, turn it around backwards, Y pipe it and run it back..still basically a straight but you still have a muffler for legalness as far as cops and state inspectors are concerned

well im just sayin its gonna sound like complete crap when you just unbolt it...they all do...i dont see how people like that sound...im not tryin to offend anybody im just puttin my opinion out there...id rather see pipes ran back than just saw the muffler off...yes yes ive sawn a muffler off my truck before and thought it was cool until i kept gettin the defective muffler tickets and everytime i drove down the highway and it was RIGHT in the cab..i was like hey man...run this crap on back out..and the tone from the pipe made it sound better..then i couldnt pass inspection and so i got a 12" pack and turned it backwards with a Y pipe at the end and had the same sound...and it was legal!

so whe you run a glasspack backwords it doesnt act like a muffler it is more like a straight pipe?

yea because those little baffles or what ever their called on the inside of the muffler are facing the other way (towards the rear) and the exhaust just flows right over them and they dont catch and give you that crap glasspack sound as if you turned it the right way....lol did you get all that? kinda confused myself on that one

Well...yes and no...depends on the type of glasspack you're running.

A louvered core 'pack is the type the f150fella is talking about. BUT...doesn't matter which way ya run em, forward or reversed, the louvers are going to create about as much backpressure as a stock muffler and in some cases even more.

The other type of glasspack has a perforated core. The inner tube just has a bunch of holes punched in it to let the sound get at the packing material instead of the louvers. This type acts more like a straight pipe when it comes to not disrupting the exhaust flow but still will have some sound mellowing.

My experience...the perforated core type is better from a performance standpoint but they both sound about the same.

what we did to my buddy's truck is we cut the muffler off and then ran a piece of pipe back and out the side right in front of the rear tire with a nice tip on it and it sounded great and looked even better
