What am I in for

I'm in the process of pulling my exhaust manifolds due to a leak on the rt side. Well the leak was due to a blown gasket and a broken stud on the fwd rt lower position. I tried to drill and easyout but i couldn't keep the drill from walking. If I take it to a shop what am I looking at price wise. Has anyone else run into this. If it wasn't for the one stud i'd be done.

I had the same issue with my 97 4.6 L, and they (the studs) all came out relatively easy. Is the stud below the surface? If not grind the face a bit to square it up, then tap with a center punch and start with a small titanium coated bit then increase bit size until you get where you need to be for the easy out. Use brand new bits, and I felt the Ti coated would give me a better chance. If you can find left hand fluted bits try that, It might just back the damn thing out. I cannot believe how many people have had the same issue!!!

I had the same problem when I changed the headers on my old F150, I had one stud that was broke off so I heated it with a small propane torch and sprayed some PB Blaster on it and I kept soaking it with PB Blaster, then I very caryfully drilled it with the smallest drill bit i could find that would fit in the drill (be carefull DO NOT Break this bit off), after that was done I drilled it with a bigger bit (the size of the easy out your going to use)and used a easy out to get the stud out of the block, it just about didnt come out so be very carefull and do not break off the easy out or the drill bit or your screwed, just my 2 cent`s hope this helps
