exhaust for most torque
exhaust for most torque
Ok, the time has finally come - i am tired of my truck being loud and not having the torque i know it could. I have had the Y-pipe duals out the back with the muffler delete. Then I have had the flowmaster 40 series sido with both setups having dual pipes and tips angled out behind the rear tires. I have purchased a magnaflow 2.5"inlet/outlet x-pipe. I would like to go to a magnaflow muffler that is fairly quiet with only a slight growl and no drone in the cab if possible but really let me feel some torque again. I know my past two exhaust setups have really hurt the torque and I am ready to get rid of that, I always just sacrificed the torque for sound, but i have come to the realization that sound is not everything. As far as i can tell the most power and torque is going to be gained by a SISO muffler since my engine is stock. I am getting the truck dyno tuned and will be adding a high flow air filter (possibly a complete intake). Eventually the truck will get E-fans. Since i already have the x-pipe is there a way to use that to replace the restrictive stock y-pipe that joins the cats with a single exhaust? I was thinking of using a longer magnaflow SIDO reversed so that it would be a DISO and then put the maggie x-pipe in place of the factory y-pipe? anyone ever tried this? should i see my torque and power return? I was thinking of like an 18 or maybe even 22 inch maggie muffler so i would have a relatively quiet exhaust.

alright man..heres the deal..you cant run a x pipe if you only have one exhaust pipe running into the muffler..if you do they your wasting all kinds of money and time...the reason you lost tq is cuz u had no muffler..and aftermarket exhausts make you lose tq as well...except magnaflow..i would spend the money and do this set up here..beware your in for a suprise and this is the best performance set up i can give you..EITHER tru dual exhaust with 2 magnaflow high flow converters with a x pipe and tru dual magnaflow mufflers...could throw on headers if you want even more tq...or my second one..same thing hi flows..tru duals x pipe and 2 bassani mufflers...headers as well..headers help out ALOT dude thats my input on this yes your lookin at some money..but if you just want a little tq back just get a sido magnaflow muffler and youll just have to swallow that however much you spent on that x pipe cuz you have no use for it with one pipe runnin into the muffler..or sell it on ebay...
To the OP- Honestly, no exhaust is going to give you a very noticeable increase in power (except headers like f150fella mentioned)
My advice, and probably the quietest (and simplest) would be to go back to a SI/SO 2.5 or 3 inch pipe with a straight through muffler like Magnaflow, Dynomax, Borla, etc. (My vote is for Dynomax by the way
)
yeah i think i am going with the 24" magnaflow 2.5" SISO muffler and just sell the x-pipe or file it away for later use. I am getting tuned in the coming weeks, looking at around mid august so a tune and high flow air filter will be on as well. I am not looking for huge torque gains, but at least back to stock if possible because I am well under the stock torque level right now and I hate it.

or instead of a si/so you could do a si/do which would be better i think..or you could get tru dual maggies and use that x pipe and add some tq to it if it were me and i was wantin more tq and had the money and already had a x pipe...i would get 2 maggies..14" mufflers i think they are...and get the exhaust guy to cut the 2 small cats off and run the 2 pipes, x pipe, and the mufflers, then run tips out...or dump thats just me tho..not my truck not my money..do what you do brotha! and good luck and i hope you enjoy your decision

24" muffler??? Dude that'll sound stock almost
But if thats what your after
a SI/SO system is healthier than running a si/do. The si/do being whatever size configuration ( 3" in 2.5" outs, 2.5" in/outs.. ) once it enters the muffler and goes to the outlets and exits, theres the low exhaust pressure and scavaging comes into affect. An all single system is better for performance, but a bit boring for me. I'm happier with my better sounding true duals and I must have the dual tips.

not cool and i kinda want some tone in my exhaust....not just straight loudness like it is now
i was under the impression that the 24" maggie would have some growl to it still, even more so than the 22" according to what i was reading but I may have misread - i think maybe b/c the common 22" being used was a larger bodied muffler vs the 24 that i was looking at...i love the way that the new escalades and denalis (yeah yeah i know a GM) sound stock from the factory. Its a nice healthy growl that you can hear but isnt overwhelming at all. Ive been all about loud exhaust for as long as i can remember but now I would rather have my performance and everything i keep reading/hearing/experiencing says that the SISO will perform better even when I get the truck tuned since I am not running any sort of built engine. The only things being done to my engine are the dyno tuning with SCT (xcal 2 or 3), the maggie exhaust, and then a high flow dry air filter. Down the road i am going to look at doing UD pullies and e-fans. With the work I do and gas prices like they are I can give up the sound and good looks of duals for the performance and hopefully mileage increase of the SISO
Unkless you have Hi-Flow cats, and LT headers, the 24" will be very quiet. I wouldn't go no larger than the 18" Those are still quiet. My 11" mufflers are quiet even ( to me ).
yea i agree darren..the 24" muffler would be WAY to quiet unless as you said hi flows and headers....i would go with a 14" (think they make a 14) if your lookin for nice tone and not very much noise then yea go ahead with the 24"...if your lookin for tone and some noise go 11"
