'04 Ford F150 headers
'04 Ford F150 headers
I have a 2004 (new body style) Ford F150 5.4L 3V. I want to put headers on my truck but dont know what to get. I was going to put shorties but Ive read on here to go long tube or save your money. Ive been thinking Im going to put long tubes on my truck and think Im going to get the Dynatech system. My question is how much more sound can I expect from a set of shorty headers and how much more sound from the long tubes? I want some more power too but really want my truck to be a bit louder and more aggressive sounding. All I have done to my exhaust is a Magnaflow supertruck style exhaust. My other question is has anyone with the Dynatech set up had any post installation problems? I drive long distances occasionaly and dont want to worry about wires or hoses or anything being affected by the headers.
Do you have a cat-back already? With the stock cats? I would get the Dynatech catted LTs. They come with Hi-Flow cats that bolt up to the exhaust and will run right to your catback and sound great and perform excellent, pulling you into the seat. Catch is, that Longtube system is about $1,000.... But worth it.
Shortys I dont know about sound, but there is no performance gains what so ever. All they are really good for is replacing broken OEM manifolds.

closer to $1,400 but either way i have no regrets. Also, if you're not going to install it yourself get a quote first. You probably wont like it.
Just an fyi.

Shorties aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. The power gains are less but so is the price tag. If you want to save some money than just get the shorties and ditch the cats if you can. If you can afford the long tubes than by all means, do them. The power gains are going to be more and it's going to sound better. Of course you'd need to run a custom tune for both set-ups. Do you have a tuner? If not, I'd be looking into getting that before the headers.
