Magnaflow true duals... any risk of... ???

I'm planning to get Magnaflow true duals put on my truck tomorrow morning.

Is there any risk of anything stupid... Like check engine lights coming on later ???

The reason I ask, is that I read the post where the guy put on a CAI, then had check engine codes coming on. I know this is because of the leaning aspect of a CAI. Maybe he can get a tuner to correct for that, but I don't want open that "can of worms". So no CAI for me either.

I was planning on the Magnaflow TD's and probably never another single thing, as far as performance goes (already will have more power than I will ever need).
It would just be really lame if my first and only performance mod, caused any issues, like a 'check engine light' or anything else, that I haven't thought of....

Anybody ever have, or hear of somebody else having any kind of problems from aftermarket mufflers ?

Thanks,
Fish

Are you doing true duals, or one exhaust pipe that splits into 2 pipes the exit the truck? I didn't think Magnaflow made a true dual setup, or are you getting custom piping? Just be sure your O2 sensors don't get cut out for some odd reason and you should be just fine.

I've got true duals on mine with 2 SISO flowmasters and never had any issues. Since getting the exhaust I've also put on a new intake and got custom tunes written to take care of the A/F ratios.

Hey NCSU....

I'm going down to discuss the options with my muffler pro buddy, this morning. Put it this way, if I couldn't have "true duals" from Magnaflow, I might just switch brands.

I had actually heard that true duals were an easy thing to do on an F150, as they already have twin cats, and instead of bringing the pipes together in a 'Y', and then into the factory single exhaust, you would simply come off of each individual cat, and go straight into a seperate exhaust on both sides... Then maybe throw in an 'H' or 'X' pipe, and be done with it...... No ?

Hmmm,
I'll find out this morning.

Peace,
Fish

PS, You said
and got custom tunes written to take care of the A/F ratios.
Yea'.... You and everybody else "except" Fish Chris. IMPO, tuners are a bottomless pit full of potential issues.

It's a piece of machinery. Already enough potential for issues, as it is !

PS, I saw your wheels on another local vehicle yesterday.... and they looked bad-***.... But your truck looks way better :-)

If you get the pipes bent at a local shop, you should be able to throw any pair of mufflers (that will fit) under there. Some companies offer full cat-back kits, like Magnaflow, and I didn't think any of those were True Dual. I don't think any company sells an off-the-shelf true dual 'kit'.

Pretty much, check this link, it shows my setup. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=251057

The difference between what you described and what I've got is the running of the dual pipes. Both pipes need to run down the passenger side as the fuel tank gets in the way of the drivers side. Other than that, you've got it!

Yeah, depending on who's tune you have. I wouldn't run a 'canned' tune, that is to say, a tune that is mass produced to work on every vehicle, ei. every F150, every Mustang, etc. I got Troyer Perfomance tunes based on their long history of tuning (specifically F-150s), the fact that you can send data back to them to so they can adjust the tune as needed, and they have great customer service, although I hear they've gotten pretty busy and it's harder to get ahold of someone if you do have issues.

Ideally, you'd take your truck to someone like that and let them create a tune while your truck is on the dyno. That way everything can be seen in real time, and everything can be fine tuned. I haven't had any problems with mine and I wouldn't drive an 04-08 without one!
