Cai Help!!!

Im new on here and have been reading up on CAI. Ive recently bought a 2006 F150 King Ranch and wanted to put some stuff on. We put on Flowmaster 40about a month ago, and i just installed a K&N FIPK last week. Everything was fine for the first 3 days or so, then the check engine light came on. I went under the hood to make sure everything was tight and all the sensors were connected. everything looked fine so i took it down the road to the mechanic. He ran a diagnostic test and said the codes were messed us on the computer from the extra air intake. He changed the codes but now wants me to put the stock intake back on and run with it for 3 weeks to see if the light comes back on. I've read on this forum for about 2 months now and i havent seen this. Im not real sure what to do any advice would be greatly helpful.

There are lots of posts advising that a CAI should not be run without a tuner as it is high risk of running lean.

CAI kits make the 5.4 3v engines lean out.

All he does to "reset" the codes is disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. If you still have the CAI on it, it will probably gives codes telling you that it is running lean(too much air for the amount of gas being comsumed). It is pretty common with this engine as it is programmed from the factory to be happy with the intake it came with. The solution if you want to run a CAI is to get a tuner programmed by either Justin, Troyer, or the Gryphon programmed by Bill. To be safe with the CAI, you need one of their custom programs to tune your truck.

I can almost guarantee you will be happy. www.powerhungryperformance.com

I ran the Edge with the canned programs for about 1 1/2 years and then went with Bill's custom programs. I kept the canned towing program and got his 87 Performance and 93 Performance tunes.

Alternate rout would be the AF1 3 inch tube. I haven’t heard of problems with that set-up on stock or moded

Correct, as I recall, Troyer tested it and said it was safe. I have always wondered though, if it is safe, is it doing much?

It is my understanding that the price includes 3 custom tunes that are sent later after you install the unit. The unit comes with the same canned programs as the Edge.

you need to either call over to troyers, get ahold of justin, or wait a few days for bill. the custom tune is a tune specifically written for YOUR truck with the mods on YOUR truck.

i'm waiting on mine from Bill... SHOULD be next few days

btw, whoever lives 20min away from him... i'm jealous...lucky man lucky. you have GOT to go talk to him.
