I had the Roush CAI which is same as the Airaid except the logo plate. I have a 2006 5.4 3V. I installed it and ran it for a day before my changes to the Roush Street Legal Exhaust and then for a day after the exhaust was on. I tried to drive the same stretch of roads at the same speed with the stock/stock set-up, the Roush CAI/Stock Exhaust, the Roush/Roush and finally the Stock CAI/Roush exhaust set-up.

My impressions:

When you are rolling along a an easy pace and tip the throttle in a bit the stock/stock set up seems to stumble a beat or two gulping for air....but it does so quietly.

Do the same with the Roush CAI and it hesitates less but makes a very unpleasant drone which only goes away entirely if you are basically coasting.

Adding the exhaust didnt change much other than a nicer start-up and acceleration rumble...unfortunately still along with that awfull CAI noise.

I tightened everything, I clamped and taped and stuffed foam, lead weights, rubber and all sorts of thngs on the tube, the air box and even the fender inner metal. It still whined and droned no matter what.

I took that non-engineered POS (the Roush CAI) off and threw it in the box it came in. It's not worth it. I'm just going to get a drop-in and even if it doesn't flow much better at least I can hear the exhaust and the radio. Maybe the more expensive CAI's are better but clearly all those chambers, bumps and baffles in the stock CAI are there to keep things quiet.

BTW...if you ever forget to plug the MAF sensor connector back in, it makes the truck very unhappy.

Everyone here has their favorites, but I'm telling you now.. hear me now and believe me later... that the 3" AF1 is the perfect intake for our trucks. The 3.5" is even better, but you need custom tuning for that one.

No droning, no vibrations, better throttle response, nice growl from under the hood.

If open element filters scare ya for some reason then no, no AF1 for you.

They kick *** tho.

I have the Airaid on my 04 5.4 3V and absolutely HATE it. The drone is sickenning. I called Airaid, and the guy told me that it is the motor, not his system. The stocker is going back on this weekend. $200 down the drain. Not a happy camper right now. Thanks.
