Redoing exhaust, want LOUD!!

Currently I have dual flowmaster 40's dumped before the axle, it sounds ok but i want louder after 3 years with this exhaust. My buddies with mustangs all have SLP loudmouths and they sound amazing. So this is what im thinking:

Dual SLP Loudmouths with an x pipe dumped, possible with tips for appearances??. Would that work? Also would gutting or deleting the cats make a difference sound/performance wise? I searched around and got some answers but there isnt much on the SLP's here..

Thanks!

High flow cats and Dynomax bullets dumped...loudest you'll get without sacrificing performance...

ya from what i have researched, a straight through round muffler is not going to have much of a deviation from brand to brand. dynomax bullets seem to be choice around here. i should have mine tomorrow, i will try to get a high quality sound video up in the next few days.

so after looking around, I take it that the Loudmouths and bullets are basically the same thing? Also I been reading up on the x-pipe. Should I go X or H pipe?

bullets and LMs are not the same. The LM is basically just a wider tube than the actual exhaust pipe, it has no internals at all (i believe). The bullets have perforated tubing internally.

Both will be just as loud as straights. Bullets will retain more low end power.

Most run X-pipes. On a truck, i dont think it really matters X or H.

yea i am not sure on the actual construction of the LMs but the "straight through" design theory is relatively the same. i remember a article i read from 5.0 mustangs about an X and H pipe test. On the same vehicle, the numbers were relateively the same. the H pipe equalizes exhaust pressures while X pipe does the same but scavenges exhaust gases at the same time which in theory creates a better exhaust flow. typically with an H pipe, you will have a lower rumber to the exhaust while with the X pipe it will be a bit more aggressive and "european" sounding as i have heard some people say. on your truck, i would go with an X pipe. it changes that deep rumble to a very aggressive tone when paired with a non-restrictive muffler and helps exhaust flow and scavenging

Ok guys, I went to the exhaust shop this morning. We cut off my 40s and tryed on a pair of dynomax bullets, and I was least impressed. They sounded the same as my 40s?? After that they brought out a pair of 10 series flows and those where louder, but after leaving I hate them. A hard lesson learned $$ wise, but I Just ordered a pair of SLP's so we'll see how those go...

im pretty pissed at myself for goin up there this morning... ...lol

sorry to hear that. But if the d-max bullets and 10 series both dont impress you, i dont think anything else really will. I think what you will need to do is have high-flow cats installed.

I honestly could not tell a difference in the tones of the two. Im going to hollow my cats or get high flows, I ordered the SLP's and an x pipe.

i have a custom i think its " catback exhaust put on" my local mechanic hand builds them and shapes them around your truck. still has cat, no muffler, to 45's sounds amazing, one of the loudest trucks in my area, if you can get away from the muffler i would do it
