Im confused

I called up my local muffler shop asked how much it would cost to replace the four stock cats with 2 high flows and they told me it would cost around $590. So i want to know why it cost that much!! I should do it myself but i dont know where to get some pipe tubing and how easy is it. I mean im not a mechanic but i know the basics. also the guy said my O2 sensor might mess up what is up with that any help would be greatly appreciated

p.s that same muffler shop is where i got my FM 40 installed it cost only $350 for it and piping reaching the back to two 3.5" echo tips. so wtf!!!

Cats are more expensive then mufflers. Also, if you take out 2 cats you will get a check engine light because ur rear O2 sensors will see there are no cats. You can get a tuner to disable the rear 02 sensors.

it could be for liability issues because it is still illegal even though you have cats and its all about the money because they will end up sending the cats somewhere to melt them down to get the platinum out of them because its worth $1200 an ounce. i'd do it myself. its not that the o2's mess up but some trucks have catalys efficiency sensors which is read by the o2's and they would just throw the engine light. as long as you get the codes checked every so often or every oil change then you should be fine just as long as the engine light doesn't flash.

Crazy, i'm confused too.. You can get basic magnaflow high flows for 60 bucks a piece.. guys were selling their 4 cats to scrap yards for anywhere from 50 bucks to 160 bucks, so that puts you anywhere from $60 to $40 profit for just parts.. which means they are charging you upwards of $500 for labor.. that sounds like robbery. Ask them what the charge would be if you supplied the high flows, and you also want your old cats back, just to see what they want for labor.

Your front 02 sensors won't be affected, your after cat 02's should be fine as long as they are the same distance away from the new cats, which shouldn't be rocket science.. atleast, this is the info. i've learned from other posts.

Ok, you may throw a code and you may not. Lets start with labor, I paid $160 for labor to have my high flow cats installed. I purchased my cats from performancepeddler.com and took them into the local shop. I also got my cats back and took them to the scrap yard so you will get some money back. I did not throw any codes when I had mine done, like NYTrader said you need to have the 02's installed correctly. I love the way my truck sounds now and am glad I had it done. check out the link in my sig.

By the Hi-Flows for $74 each, and find a shop that will install then for under $100
