what do u mean? Is your exhaust stock? If so i did a si/ do flowmaster 40 with two 3.5" echo tip out the back it sounded nice. Installed a cold air intake made it even louder at launch. Im about to install high flows replacing all 4 with the 2 u can try that also, heard that its really loud when u do that.

of course mine not under warranty i dont think

On the older trucks, the Y-Pipe was super restrictive inside...the outside appearance didn't give a clue to how choked-down it was on the inside.

I don't think a y-pipe would affect your warranty any more than an aftermarket exhaust would, since it's behind the cat.

If you have an exhaust already but just looking for sound, an ORY ( off-road-Y ) could do the trick, but replacing the stock 4 restrictive sound cats with 2 Hi-Flow Magnaflows for $74 each would help alot.

I got told that you are not supposed to mess with the cats for 7 years or so, unless there is actually a problem with them. The shop alluded to it actually being illegal. Is there any truth to this and how is everyone getting around it?

The cats are legal, but most shops dont want to mess with them in fear of getting in trouble. Go to a, not so popular name brand shop and they should do it. Mostly as long as warranty is expired they'll change anything you ask.
