break in time for a new muffler???

I just took of a flowmaster 40 series dumped off my 4.2 f-150...added a magnaflow with tips coming out at an angle behind wheels....well just wondering if there is a "break in period" before you get the true sound...it was much louder with the flowmaster...I realize its a v-6 and the dumped was louder but I cant even hear it in the cab hardly..

dumped is going to make a huge difference and the break in period on magnaflows is about 500 miles, thats how long it takes for the packing inside the muffler to turn hard

Dumped Flows vs Magnaflow setup with rear exit is night and day difference, will never sound like a dumped 40 series when broken in, exhaust on my vehicles usually ranged from 500-1K miles before fully broken in.

What length Magnaflow did you get?

Mine sounded great from the first start with it installed, and sounds even better after 500-800 miles. It's got tips coming out before the rear wheel though (#16616), so I don't know if theres difference in the sound compared to being dumped.

To clarify what Surfer said... it will never be as loud as a flowmaster... but in my opinion it defiantly has the sound and tone department won.

EDIT: Bleh... just noticed you have a v-6. I really have no clue when it comes to how these sound on that engine, I'm referencing to my 4.6 v8 in the statement above..

Yeah the flowmaster has a totally different tone. I have a Dynomax Ultraflow which is a straight through like the Maggie. It has a nice deep clean sound and is quiet at highway speed unlike the Flowmaster. Mine took about 1000 miles now it sounds badass

Just another .02.. lol

I put a Borla SI/SO on my '05 4.6l and originally thought it sounded kinda tame.. after about 1k miles it got a bit louder, deeper.. and continued to get laouder and deeper until where it is now, after approx. 5k miles it's pretty much perfect..
