Considering a dump?

Has anyone ever changed their exhaust from the rear to dumping them?

Right now, my duals exit the rear, and I was just wanting some input on sound. I have a KR, and thought the dump might look cleaner. Thoughts?

Oh yeah... Just so no one beats me to it...

Plenty of people have. Your can hear it better in cab and it sounds slightly louder outside. They usually dump their systems before axle so a few inches after the muffler is common.

On an whim last week I got the saws-all out.

Originally I had a flowmaster cat-back. it sounded pretty good but fairly quiet.

then about a month ago i cut off the two stock cats and put on magnaflow high flow's.

It was quite a bit louder but i couldn't hear it much in the cab. but it was fairly loud when i had someone else rev it up while i stood behind the truck.

so then last week I finally cut off the pipes right behind the muffler and dumped it.

Now it sounds bad a**.. I think its a little louder outside and it's definitely louder in the cab! I can really hear it during acceleration and can hear it some at cruising speed. I can even hear it and feel it some at idle.

I can feel it much more now too. I can feel the exhaust in the floorboard. Especially at about 1800 rmps. That must be the resonance tone of my cab or muffler.

I would recommend it but be aware that it will make it MUCH louder in the cab.

Which is great if that's what your going for.

Do it... I don't think you'll regret it. It will probably be quite a bit louder but it sounds great, you can even actually "feel" the exhaust rumbling.

if it's too loud in the cab, but you like the loudness outside, just put you your pipes on lightning style, exiting before the right rear tire.

I am doing this tomorrow, I always heard to help reduce some of the sound in the cab to put some turn downs on the pipes and angle them towards the outside of the truck a little, maybe about 30 degrees or so?. Can anyone confirm?

turndowns would increase the noise in the cab compared to running pipes all the way back

That would probably make it quieter than pointing the turndowns straight down, because less of the sound would be bouncing off the ground back up into the truck. I don't know if it would be noticeably quieter though.

yeah, but if he is putting the turndown closer to the truck than the tail pipes were than it will typically be louder

Oops... I thought he meant he was going to put turndowns on anyway, and wanted to know if angling them would make it a little quieter. My bad

i dont think that would make a difference if he did what youre talking about unless he went with turndowns smaller than the tips

I want to change mine to over the axle dumped.

I think i may have fried my axle seal, and thats why it started leaking out of the side of the rear end housing
