Cant find anyone to take my cats out

I have been to a few exhaust shops trying to get 2 of my 4 cats taken out and the other 2 replaced with high flows. Cant seem to get anyone to take the other 2 out and leave them out. They say it came with the truck for emissions and that they cannot cut them out. Is this a law just in VA or everywhere. So how did everyone else get this done? They also tell me they flow no better than stock cats and that its a waste of money?

its a law in states that have emissions testing, but you should be able to replace those with a highflow cat

they usually wont do it for you at a shop unless you got hookups and seeing as you dont ooyour only other option is to do it your shop, but i am still suprised they wont replace those 2 with one high flow cat, the shops around here do it all the time, just open up a phone book and start calling shops and asking if they will do what you want them to do

Wow, that's interesting.. I've never heard of someone not wanting to do work you request cause they have a different opinion.. I imagine people get into the exhaust business to work on people's exhuast and make money.. not to stand on a soap box and tell people how to drive around! ESPECIALLY if your replacing with high flow cats!! It must be a VA thing. In vermont, If I wanted the shop to take out my cats and weld a freakin banana to my tailpipe, they would do it for 40 bucks. I can't imagine them saying "Ford didn't weld that banana onto your tailpipe, and I'm not going to either"..

Quite a predicament.. If I were you, call the shops in NC just to see what they say. Or just rip out the exhaust yourself and tell them it never had 4 cats.

Yea a few shops I went in and talked to said if they could do it they would. One quoted me a price of 50 bucks. I had the guy about to do it but he talked to his sister and they came to the He was going to do it for 100 under the table. I respect his choice, but i just really want to have this done, especially since i already have the cats. I will have to call a few shops in NC and see what they say. Or find out if any of my buddys can weld, dont think they can tho.

Maybe he presented the question wrong. Just tell them you want your cats replaced - That's it. Tell them you have the updated cats for replacement - I need a quote .

From what I understand they can't take the cats out and replace them unless something is wrong with the cats. If they do its like a 250,000 dollar fine, so I really don't blame them for not doing it for someone they don't know. We don't have emissions testing in my county but its still against the law to take out the cats, what I would do if I were you is I would crawl under the truck and cut all the cats out. Then I would drive to a local shop and say hey my exhaust broke all to hell, would you mind repairing it, here are the 2 cats that go in it. They shouldn't have a problem with it then.

I have a good shop in Maryland if you are willing to take the drive. They did mine in about an hour. I took my own high flow cats that I purchased online to the shop and they charged me $160 to install and weld everything. I even got my old cats back and took them to the scrap yard for some cash back.

i am not having a problem getting the high flows installed, every shop said they would do that. Im having a problem getting getting the other 2 deleted. thanks for all the responses. I will probably just call some shops in NC and see what they say. If that doesnt work im gonna take the advice on cutting them out myself.

why leave the pr-cats? take all four out and put in the two high flows. thats what i did, no CEL btw. but, break the cat with a hammer in the parkin lot of the shop and say you have a clogged cat...its cheaper to bring your own cats too, i suggest magnaflow
