S&B vs AF1

Enclosed filter or open air filter? I need your opinion on these intakes. I'm going to purchase the Gryphon tuner also. I have an 07 STX 4x4 with a 4.6. OK...so AF1 or S&B?

I've been mulling over the same decision. Some here report droning with the S&B. Unfortunately the AF1 isn't out for the newer 4.6 trucks like ours yet. I'm about to send another email to them to check a status again though.

The drone on the S&B might be something bill can help with on a tune for the gryphon though, or so I've heard.

Enclosed. Better air flow, colder air, cleaner filtering.

at 60+ mph what do you suppose the temp difference is between open and closed. I'd go less than .5 deg F. why do you think efans don't run full power above 50?

after seeing the amount of dust and mud that collects on the lid of my s&b im glad its not open. ill take the few horsepower decrease that u cant feel anyways and keep my filter cleaner.. either way its a large improvement over stock which is all that really matters to me. but thats just my opinon. the AF1 is a great intake and lots of ppl love theres. id say it mostly depends where you live and how dirty your engine bay tends to get. thats pretty much the only advantage to a closed intake. like others said it doesnt really effect the intake temps.

I agree completely.

I prefer the S&B for that reason, but the AF1 is also a great intake.

I sell both so check out my site for either of them. I am doing $5 off S&B now by using coupon code "5offsb"

Hey Alon, any chance of a "release party" sale on the af1 intake for the newer 4.6 trucks when they become available in the next few weeks?

I own an S&B and its prolly the best intake i have owned. I have a Moroso CAI on my TA which is an open filter. The one on the Trans Am has been on for about 5 years and no problems. They are two totally different animals, just thought i would throw it out there that both open and closed intakes work and add power.
