Installing OBX longtubes
That's what I want to know - Why does everyone off the resonators, won't they get past emissions. Not enough material in there or what ?
I know up here that you need to have cats to pass. They do a visual and run a scan test for you to pass. I just thought instead of messing with a engine light or trying to set up O2 SIMS, to just go ahead and put cats back in it.
I've put 800kms already this week, and the only issue I've run into is that my collector donuts blew out because I didn't re-tighten the collector bolts in time.
My entire exhaust has already turned multi-color. It's pretty impossible to keep away from it unless you just use the vehicle here and there and can keep the exhaust from getting too hot. Pretty hard for me to do consirdering this is still my DD and the truck has to work no matter what to do up a few of the mountains around here with 35" rubber and 3.55 gears.
Anyone looking to put these on I would recommend the Seal 4 Good gaskets, I got mine off of E Bay, they seem to seal excellent, and they didn't take much of a seat when I went to re-torque all the header bolts.

I have discolouration on mine already after about 600 miles this week. I am running the resonators and it throws the emissions code. The resonators are just their to help quiet it down and have no effect on emissions what so ever.
that post just made my decision to purchase a set of OBX headers for my green truck. Basicly since I have a visual inspection in Texas, I could run a set of 02 sims and I'd be fine with a bolt on OBX kit however I will probably have the headers ceramic coated before I installed them on my truck.
If you order OBX's my only suggestion is that you try and get the collector donuts from them too. I can't really find a set that fits quite right.
If there's anyone out there who has a part# or something of ones they found that fit, it would be great.

I thought the OBX donuts were great. If you call OBX and tell them where you got them, they will have the seller send you the parts.
Of course running with no cats is going to throw a CEL. Magnaflow Spun-Cats 59965's are nearly an exact size match to the resonators.
There really is no point in ceramic coating stainless headers, I'd be worried about flaking, not the mention cost. SS doesn't conduct heat well so you're not going to help underhood temps at all, and SS will never rust out. At full temp, I can nearly rest the back of my fingernail on the header tubes just inches from the head.
Stainless heat colors gold, then blue, to purple. My headers are mostly purple and the mid-pipe to tailpipe is mostly blue since I went with full SS exhaust. It's normal and looks pretty cool.
