I'm not exactly sure, but it could be related to the engine temperature, basically could involve getting the accurate engine temp readout in your cluster. Not sure of this, just what I think.

Yup, the ECU needs feedback from the front O2 sensors to help determine the proper A/F ratio. They are absolutely necessary for proper engine operation.
With no front sensors your truck is running closed loop which is likely very rich to protect the engine. In addition to the CEL, your truck is getting cr@ppy MPG and is way down in power.

Yeah you definitely have to have those front sensors in there or else your ecu is not getting the proper feedback about the A/F ratio. The rear sensors can be bypassed through "Mil eliminators" you can do a google search and buy them for about $15 a piece or build them yourself for about $3 a piece. You still have to have the rear 02's in place but splice in the mil eliminators.
