what to buy?

I have to replace the muffler on my older '93 f150 because of holes, etc. I have had a Flow 40 series on for yrs and just bought a magnaflow 14" for my '04 f150. I like it but my '93 can be at least as loud as the Flow 40 series. I was interested in the Imco Extreme muffler, but apparently they have changed to the name Cherry Bomb Extreme, i think its a 6" body. I am not sure if this would be too loud or not, as it says race/off road. You used to be able to find them for about $30 on ebay but not any more, not sure why. Anyone got any ideas on a cheap fix? I can't spend a lot on this at all, just something to get me by. It is a si/do setup and all i need is the muffler and i'll have the exhaust place replace the pipes from there back. everything else is ok.

And my Flow 40 has small pinholes in it. That's why I'm replacing it. Do you think that is necessary? I figured that would mess up the flow of the exhaust if there were holes anywhere. I know there are tons of knock offs out there, if anyone knows of a good one please let me know, unless I could find a cheap used Flow 40 somewhere.

Avoid the Cherrybomb Extreme muffler. Ever wonder why it cost $30? cause its a pos that will rust out & fall apart.

A knock off Flowmaster should do ya well. Check out this knock off 10 series Flowmaster.

well....that is almost the exact same thing as the cherry bomb extreme. it is the same body size almost, around 6". have you heard one of those on a truck? i wonder how loud it is, maybe about like a flow 40 series?

as for flowmaster, i'm not sure what everyone else's luck is, but this is my 2nd one because they have both gotten holes in them. it takes about 3-5 yrs max and they will have holes in them. i am betting they are a little better quality than the avg $30 muffler, but for what they cost they should last longer. i saw that one on ebay, was wondering about it or if anyone had chanced it?

i think cherrybomb now is the same company as imco. i think imco must have bought them or something. not sure what imco's quality is, but seems to be decent.

and in addition....forgive me for the ignorance, i haven't been on here in a while but has flowmaster discontinued the original 40 or something? they don't have it listed on their site. it is just the super 40 and the super 44. what's everyone's opinions on them compared to the original 40? i've heard sound clips but its hard to tell.

They now manufacture the super44, it is basically a 40 series with less interior baffles, meaning better airflow and more sound output. Ive had the super44 on my truck and it sounds awesome.

Yes the Flowmaster 10 series is in the same line as the Cherrybomb Extreme. A real Flowmaster will outlast the Cherrybomb though. Also, you could help prevent such rustings like using automotive heat treated paint on them to prevent rusting.

Your very best bet would be the Magnaflow 14" round mufflers though, but if money is a real factor, get the knock off like I suggested.

actually what i had meant was that the one on ebay from the link you posted is almost identical to the cherrybomb/imco extreme muffler. i am not familiar w/ the flowmaster 10 series. i tried looking it up but it seems that they don't make it any more? i am guessing maybe it was a race muffler? i am confused as to how loud the extreme muffler is. i am familiar w/ the sound of a flow40 series. the extreme says it is for race or off road applications. i don't want my truck to sound like a race car/truck, i want a deep growl.

on my 04 i have a 14" magnaflow oval. it sounds good, i didn't want it to be quite as loud as a flowmaster. but those round 14's sound good in the sound clips, i just don't want my 04 to be that loud, but i don't want it to be quiet either. the 14" oval di/do seems to be perfect in the middle. for my 93, i am just not wanting to spend that kind of money on the muffler, so i am looking for a knockoff i guess or a used flowmaster in good shape.

darren what about that knockoff on ebay? you ever heard one of those, know what it sounds like? if you were meaning it sounds like the flow 10 series, i have never heard one of those.

higdog, you are getting confused. All flowmasters and cherry bombs/imcos will sound similar, and have a similar tone. They are all designed the same with interior baffles. Now the 14" 40 series wont be as loud as the 6" 10 series. Its only a matter of sound output, your truck will still sound like a v8 truck should with any of them.

the cherry bomb extreme is not the same as the 10 series. the extreme has one huge baffle in it, where the 10 series has 2 very small "delta flow" baffles.

ok, so i thought the extreme is much louder than any flowmaster?? but i don't even know what a 10 series sounds like. i would like the extreme, but only if it were not going to be tons louder than my old flow original 40 series. i like the tone and loudness level of the 40, just looking for a cheap alternative that still sounds fairly smooth and growly. sorry to confuse anyone.

looks like the 10 series is def not what i want, too loud i think. i checked out the flo pro mufflers online and they seem to be reasonably priced.
