Exhaust size

This may seem like a dumb question.... y is it that the stock exhaust size on my truck is 2.5, but after the muffler it jumps up to i think 3". does exhaust size not matter after the muffler?

It should be the same all the way if it's stock. But the sizing matters throughout, it helps to keep velocity high, and reduce backpressure.

it was stock(before i pulled the muffler off) but clearly the pipe comeng out of the muffler was bigger then the pipe from the cats to the muffler.

I measured my '04s tailpipe & it looked like it was 2.75", so your not the only one that noticed this. I think its just to quiet it more, Ford loves making them quiet..
