Performance Gains

What are some of the performance gains people have seen on this website for the following catbacks: Borla, Magnaflow, Corsa. All I want to know is hp and torque gains.

I doubt you're going to get a lot of numbers from anyone. Not many people dyno their trucks after installing a cat back. Troyer has taken some of the guesswork out of some of the Magnaflow kits though. For instance, the 2004-2008 model year that your truck falls in to uses the 16612 kit.

9 HP at the wheels on the 4.6
13.5 at the wheels on the 5.4
Most important - Positive torque gains everywhere.

ESF you are following me everywhere! Hahaha.

My question about the system...it says the muffer and tips are 304 stainless steel....does that mean the piping is 409 grade?

I believe it is 409. Magnaflow claims 409 is a better exhaust metal than 304. Has something to do with heat and it expanding. Other than that though, 409 will eventually develope surface rust but it shouldn't rust through. Just enough to annoy you.

Haha. I'm not trying to follow you. I just browse the forum alot when I'm sitting at home so when I see something I can chime in on and possibly help someone out, I try to. I try not to be one of those people that come on and ask a crap load of questions but never conrtibute. Everyone has questions but as I get answers to mine I try to pass them along to others woh have the same questions.

Anyway, hopefully more people come in this thread and post numbers. It's always nice to see real world numbers from real people and not manufacturers.

It's cool though....I want as much information as possible.

I know exactly what the Magnaflow exhaust looks like after about 2 years of use. I had a 04 Cobra with a Magnaflow catback and X-pipe. I loved the sound and fittament. I changed color, but other than that, it was still in great shape when I sold the Cobra. The only reason I didn't go with the Magnaflow again is because I wanted a slightly different sound for my F-150. I really like the clean, crisp sound of the Magnaflow systems though.

Like you, I'm hoping others chime in with real world numbers. I hate to see people saying they felt more power or a loss of power without any numbers to back it up. I have access to some dynos that are somewhat close by, so once I get ready, I may start jumping on one to get some real world numbers for everyone.

If you have the money to spend on a dyno session just after a cat back that's great. Part of the reason you don't have real numbers is because a catback system doesn't need a dyno tune and they don't net enough of a gain for anyone to want to spend their hard earned money. But like I said, if you have the money and don't mind then go for it. I thought about putting some of my stuff on one at a time and then getting it dynoed out of curiousity and general information for those interested but it's not worth the money it would cost. Money that could be much better spent.

I have some friends....so it wouldn't be as expensive as you think. Sorry...I didn't mean to imply that I would jump on just after a catback....I'd do that after a tune/intake/catback.....then I'd see what type of power I was making. Plus with a dyno tune I could get a better overall tune.

The only thing regarding performance gains with a Borla cat-back I can say is that I gained 1.8 mpg highway right off the bat.

The sounds are freakin' sweet too.

Damnit. I was almost completely typing my post when I realized that I was looking at the XR1 and not the XS. The XS shows a 12.2 TQ increase at 2750 rpm over the Magnaflow. Nice.

MagnaFlow uses a very specific, proprietary Stainless Steel product. We’ve found that the grades of Stainless products we use are more pliable, less brittle and more resistant to cracks and failures that often result from extreme bend angles and/or thermal cycling. Because of a slightly greater content of other metals, you’ll notice that some MagnaFlow products are magnetic. This magnetism in no way affects the performance, the life or the operation of our products.

Most exhaust companies vary their designs and constructions and the grades of Stainless products they select likewise vary. There are no performance advantages to be gained by selecting one grade over another, rather they are just preferences by their respective manufacturers. Some choose to use Stainless products in the 300 series and while the blend is more pure, the increased brittleness and sensitivity to thermal shock are issues MagnaFlow chose to address by using a different blend of Stainless…again, varying philosophies.

This grade of Stainless is partly responsible for our ability to offer a high polish finish on our mufflers and moreover, even the pipes themselves appear semi-polish without any additional effort. We’re so confident that you’ll see the difference, we ask that you compare a MagnaFlow muffler to any competitors’ muffler side by side…you can see the difference.

In any case, MagnaFlow’s choice of our proprietary Stainless Steel blend allows us to offer a product of superior fit, finish and durability, a product we believe in so much, its’ backed by a Lifetime Warranty. Last time we checked, a Lifetime Warranty was better than all of rivals’ warranties, some of whom offer warranties ranging from 1 year to 1,000,000 miles….we couldn’t match the million mile warranty, so we went one better: LIFETIME WARRNTY. We believe that statement speaks for itself.

I had Magnaflow on my Cobra and loved it. Great product and great finish, even after 2 years....I just wanted something different on my F-150...we'll see how that turns out....

I know this is a little off topic but this Cobra sounds awesome. http://www.stangnet.com/index.php?op...essfully+added

And so I don't totally hijack this thread I would go with Magnaflow personally. I didn't on my truck because of price currently but might switch someday. I'm currently running the Ford Racing Lightning style cat-back. It was almost 1/2 the price and it's made by Borla. Can't say for power gains but it has a nice sound. The clip below was when I first put it on and it has gotten louder since. I plan on doing a new video once the snow leaves (which might not happen for awhile here in central NH.
