custom exhaust idea

I recently saw a saleen exhaust system for a mustang that had backpressure sensitive valves that open up turndowns to allow for more power tuning at wide open throttle. Has anyone done anything like this for their truck? I was thinking. Longtubes , highflow cats , true duals using mufflers with those valves exiting out the back and either just have turn downs or do a dual side exit for when they open up. Would it look too bizare having pipes in back and out the pass. side ? Give me your thoughts.

my neighbor has those on his corvette. i think it would be better to run duals out the back and have the valves right behind the cab. that way when you floor it, they will open up, and you wont have to run pipes out the back and the side

they werent connected to the muffler. it looked like a cut out and was welded on before the muffler. so when he was just idling around, it was quite. but as soon as he opened it up, it got really loud

cut outs

Yeah, I could always do electric cut outs. But what intrested me about the saleen set up was that it appeared to activate the opening of the turn down by itself. as soon as the back pressure gets to a certain point it opens. The valve was mounted to the muffler a sido. You could check it out on ebay I just saw one tonight I typed in saleen exhaust as the search.

ya. this wasnt a cut out though. it just looked like a cut out. it opened with the back pressure, but it wasnt part of the muffler. it was mounted before

cut outs

Ive never seen anything like that. I also wonder about the tuning that would be needed for such a set up. the way saleen made it sound was that their tune adjusts to the sudden drop of backpressure. to get max performance out of it.

you wont need a tune at all. it would just be like running an electric cut out. i dont even have a muffler. it wont hurt anything

you could attach something like this on to a y pipe. and add a spring to it so that it only opens with the right amount of pressure
