Benifits of X pipe
Benifits of X pipe
is there a significant difference between having a true dual w/x pipe and 2 mufflers or an SI/DO muffler setup?? assuming the mufflers are magnaflow..

A true duel exhaust can be very effective but it must be set up properly and the cost is more!!
The pipe should be a certain size, X-Pipe placed as close to the converters as possible, the least amount of bends as possible, mandrel bends etc...
Yeah i figured it would be a way more cost efficiant route to just do the SI/DO instead of the true duals.. but if there is a significant amount of HP and TQ gains difference between getting the true duals or SI/DO i might consider spending a little more..
Well it can be done pretty cheap as long as you just dump it after the mufflers!! Take a look in my gallery for pics on my true duels. You really only need a couple of bends after cutting the factory Y then it can be straight pipe.
I have to disagree here... I just put true duals on my 00 H.D. and it only cost me around 200 bucks. I spent about 50 on 10' of pipe, 35 ea/ for my thrush mufflers, and 60 for the tail pipes. I chose for the time being not to use an x-pipe, but may put one on in the future. Installation was not that hard.... I cut my y-pipe off, cut the tail pipe off, and the old system was off. Then I had a parts stort cut me 2 5' pieces of pipe which took it to the inlet of the mufflers. I used 2 holes in the frame to mount hangers. I put the mufflers on and used the original hangers to mount those. Then ran the tail pipes. I had this install done in 1.5 hours but i had a lift to use. I tried a SI/DO system in the past on my 02 FX4, now my current truck with true duals, the true dual setup is the best bang for the buck, and you really feel the difference with true dual in all of the torque bands.
I also did my own true duels and don't have much into mine either
The thing is most people take their stuff to exhaust shops and pay allot for it.
I was able to get my whole exhaust to line up with the true duels but it wasn't loud enough so i just cut it all off after the mufflers
I also agree that the power is much better than any of my other systems i have tried in the past!!

How much better is a true dual system with crossover than a catback SI/DO system? I don't know for sure, but it should definately be noticable when properly set up.
"true" duals implies that the cylinder banks are never merged. when setup remotely properly afa power production goes you'll generally find that X-pipe > Y-pipe > H-pipe > "true duals"
for every exhaust I've ever made from a 4.6L F150, turbo Lexi, turbo camry, turbo toyota trucks, CJ-7 with a 393 swap... when you call burnsstainless & ask them to design something. the list always goes in that order. X & Y in the front, H & "true's" lol they don't even come up unless you specifically tell them to make something like that.
old school redneck true duals always bring up the rear of the pack.
at the very least add a crossover pipe...

so can an x-pipe be used with a sido catback exhaust? i was going to have a new magnaflow 14" sido installed on my truck and i am interested in an x-pipe if i can use it with that setup, i was under the impression that they had to be used with dual mufflers
