Help with Muffler guy
What do you make of the local shop pushing flowmaster over anything and INSISTING that you will gain hp.,etc. Says he don't care either way and he has been doing this for awhile. Single in ,dual out 40 series flows for $285.00 installed, including tips. Thanks.
So if I brought mufflers/tips and told him to do true duals, would I also need to have an x pipe? And does mandrel bending even apply here? Or should I just stick with SI/DO Dynomax catback? I know this is probably a no brainer for most folks, so please excuse my ignorance.

Kinnda sounds like one of the shops I went to. He called Dynomaxes "second rate" and basically implied that even though Magnaflows and Flowmasters were the top ones, that Flowmasters were better.

Would people really be raving about (and Troyer Performance pushing) the Magnaflow system if they were crush bent? Heck no. The gains/performance wouldn't be there. Crush bent pipes reduce the pipe diameter and reduce exhaust gas velocities (by creating a "bottleneck") which in turn reduce power. You want to maintain velocity of the exhaust gases with as little restriction as possible.
And you'll want a crossover of some type (h or x) if you're concerned about horsepower and torque at all.
At the risk of running everybody completely nuts... here goes. I got a hook up at another shop through a friend. They will do true duals with Dynomax turbo mufflers for $180.00. However they said an x pipe would not work(space?) and they would have to run both pipes together down the passenger side. Make any sense to you? And to be done with this, would you do this true dual setup or a catback? Thanks again

It would be nice if there was a Placebo filter on vehicles too, if my truck gained 10% the 260 hp would be 285, 3% of that 8.58 hp, barely enough to feel.
Thanks for the replies but let's don't waste any more time on this. I just found out the "true dual" is a SI/DO. The best part...He tried to switch me to flows cause, "those things really open up the exhaust". Have flow aliens taken everyone over? Anyway, I'll get a catback and be done with it. Probably SI/DO Magnaflow or Dynomax. I think I'm stressing too much on trivial stuff.
Alright, I lied!! Not done just yet....I just read an old post from mSall150,. "Cut the Y and run true duals and use two 14" maggies or 12"Dyno Bullets". That is exactly what the new muffler guy was proposing. SOOOOOO, is this true dual or not? And whatever you call it, what do you think about it? Thanks
If hes cutting the Y and running 2 pipes back then yes,,it's true dual.
If it's 1 pipe going back to the muffler and coming out of the muffler with 2 pipes.Thats just dual tail pipes.
