My thoughts on the Volant I installed today!
First off, the UPS guy just left it, no doorbell, nothing. Took it to the garage and tore into the old air system. It came off easily...really did not need instructions. Put the Volant box in...At this point life reallly started to suck. There is a three by four black box that is in the way...do not know what it is, so I went to this website that I found here in the forum, http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/i...ect_Truck.html This article explained that I needed to place it somewhere else. This part of the install had me PO'd. This is not bolt on! After what seemed like a couple of hours messing with the wiring, and using half a roll of electrical tape, I was able to get the box to fit by relocating the 3x4 box that does who knows what. I was starting to get excited about finishing, when I realized that it needed to be mounted to something!?!?!?!? There was only one FREAKING bolt hole! Got the drill out and made another. So I look at it and I am thinking "This things only held by two bolts with plastic in between!" Not real happy about this, so what do I do? Consider it finished and take it for a spin.
My thoughts on the install: I am somewhat adept with tools. My Big Air Kit for my Yamaha Roadstar was a breeze, paid three hundred for it also, and it is worth EVERY penny. More that I can say for the Volant. I am new to modding trucks, and felt the Volant was CHEAP. Not in price, but in quality. Maybe I am biased, because in the Bike world, Barrons, Kuryakyn, and OEM Yamaha parts have some meat to them...This air box did not!
Decided to go ahead and give it the Butt Dyno test...Need to let yall know, that my 07 KR Screw now has 1700 miles, and Flowmaster 40's were installed at around 150 miles. I have gotten to know the truck a little bit. Its a 4x4 like my last F150 that was an 00. Before that I had a 98 4x4 Tahoe. The Tahoe was a piece of crap, but it had some giddyup. The 00 F150 was a dog, but it had more giddyup than my new 07. The 98, and 00 also had Flowmasters. From day one, I have loved my new truck, but felt that little old grey haired ladies, not even trying, were beating me off the light in their mini vans...
NOT ANYMORE!!! I was really surprised at how much quicker it felt. It even sounded better. At first I thought "Is it just louder, and I just think I'm going faster?" No, I actually feel the truck lurching forward! I am very pleased with the performance of the Volant. It looks cool, and THERE IS a noticable difference in the Giddyup. Dare I say it...As much as my crappy Chevy?
I have read many threads posted about which air intake to buy. I dont know which one is better, but I can tell you that I Love what the Volant has done for my truck. I can also tell you, when it falls off, I will DEFINATELY buy something else. Love CAI's, hate the quality of my Volant. What can I compare it to? Nothing, its my first truck CAI. Quality wise, it doesnt hold a candle to my Big Air Kit by Barrons on my Yamaha Roadstar!
Just a note, I took the time to post this so that it would help others decide if they wanted to purchase a CAI. If you took the time to read this, and it hurts your feelings in any way, I DONT CARE! Wait, lemme think about it once more...nope, still don't care. If you have something negative to say about it, please remember, Hines does'nt care...Happy to respond to any questions and always happy to receive THOUGHTFUL comments. Let the games begin!
Post Script I decided screw installing the Ram Air Part! Thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Great post - thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hopefully that Volant Site Sponser/rep dude guy will comment on your quality issues, but he might be too busy looking for missing ( a.k.a. non-existent) R&D data, and burying melted plastic thingys. He sure is ignoring me - have absolutely no idear why lol. On well, wtf ...

Concur - I feel the same way, generally speaking....
Don't bother.
