True Dual VS. Y Pipe

I will be ready to get my truck Dualed out pretty soon and was wondering if there is a major sound difference in True Duals (With an X pipe) and just a Y Pipe. Either way I will be running 4" tips out the Back. I haven't Decided on whether I will be running a Muffler or not. If anything It would probably the new 44.

Heres my old F250LD with a Y pipe, and Strait pipes with 4x18" tips...

You will have a 2 different tones with the 2 different set-ups. As for volume wise, my money would be on the true duals being louder and probably a little "meaner" sounding than just a Y-ed system.

BTW, your old F250LD sounded very nice!! Thats the sound that I wish I could get away with on my truck, but it would probably drive me nuts while towing.

I Drove it for 10 hours straight, and it wasnt tooooo bad, My Goodyear Wranglers are what drove me nuts!! My 35" Mud Grapplers on my Screw are no where near an improvement in the sound department!

That was just straight pipe going into a Y-pipe then to your tail pipes and tips? That sounded awesome. really aggressive. I want that sound. had alot of pop but i could tell it calmed down once you hit around 45 and 50

I plan on true dual, as well, but not with an X-pipe. I want old school rumble, so i am going to fabricate an H-pipe, or use a Pro-chamber. I think either of those options will sound good.

The only time it was raspy was when I got on the throttle HARD, If I was just taking off normally, there was absolutely no raspiness

I had true duals and now have an H-pipe in between... It sounds great! I love the "muscle car like" take offs from red lights!

The true duel setup with X-flow will have a very nice sound but will be very quiet compared to a Y-pipe and no muffler. I've done both and now have true duels with an X-flow muffler from MagnaFlow. This setup will make horsepower but will not be loud. Loud doesn't mean your makin more power, maybe just noise.

You will make more power than stock with 2.25 duals, maybe not as much as with a crossover, but I don't care for they sound they give so I opted to skip it.

People have been telling me that true dual gives you more power as well. I have an 05 F-150 5.4L v8 with a K&N cold air intake, an Airaid throttle body spacer, Ford Racing shorty headers, gibson single exhaust, and an edge evolution programmer. I got the exhaust before the headers, and someone told me that I will get more power out of the headers if I put a dual exhaust on it. I'm assuming that means true dual, because just having a Y-pipe probably wouldn't be any different.

Any suggestions? What company do you guys think makes the best exhaust?

that thing sounded frickin awesome!!!

So all you did was straight pipes from the y pipe, into another y pipe and then out to 2-4" tips??

Please let me know for sure if that is what you did because i'm pretty sure that is exactly what i'm going to do to my truck now!!!

Thanks-Alex
