Flowmaster 40

I was just curious to know why my 4.2L with the flowmaster 40 is louder than my buddy's 5.9L with the flowmaster 40. He said that when he's following me down the road with his radio on he can still hear my exhaust, So we switched trucks for a couple miles and you really can. He's pissed about it but I was just wanting to know why?? Also, Are Hi-Flow Cats worth the money??
Thanks

Simple, his cats. I had a buddy in highschool with a 2500 4x4 with the 5.9. He put on true duals with glasspacks. It wasn't loud enough for him. He swapped the glasspacks with straight pipes. Still not loud enough for him. He gutted all the cats and bingo! The thing roared! In the mornings you could tell if he was late for class. It was very loud, but didn't have a very refined tone.

Yes, depending on the price & installation.

^ x2, its all in the cats. i also have a 4.2 and wanted to get high flows, but the cheapest i could get em was 300 installed. so i just took them all off, it sounds good at low rpms but get too high pitched at high rpms, but i dont regret taking them off.

Something isn't right here... Your V-6 F-150 has 4 cats, while his Dodge has 2.
