Sounds like that would have been the one to get. Could probably have gotten away without adding any pipe that way, as well.

I'll see how this sounds on my next camping trip, then decide. Thanks.

Doesn't Magnaflow make a 22 inch....if one wanted it to be just a little louder?

22 is what I have. (Look at post #12.) The 24" should actually be a bit louder than the 22" since the 24" is smaller in cross-section and therefor has less packing.

Update

Well, we took the trailer out last weekend. Just a bit louder than stock while pulling, and definitely a lower tone, but not at all obnoxious. Still not sure if it's loud enough, but not certain it's worth messing with. Maybe I'll judge interest in the 22" FS in the classifieds, and if someone wants it, try the 24". Would still love to hear it before-hand, though. Then again, I may not do anything, and enjoy the relative quiet.

Our Muffler that is a 5x11x22 is going to be the quietest muffler in our line of universal mufflers. Remember the bigger the quieter and vise versa.

This being the case, I assume the 24" with it's smaller profile section would be a bit louder, but just how much is the question. Any gauge on this? At idle, the 22" is actually just as quiet, or maybe even more so, than the stocker. I'm wondering where the 24" would fall by comparison.

i would have gone with the 18" for sure. ive heard one on a 04 F150 5.4 (exact same truck as mine) and that was way too quiet for me, way more quiet then my exhaust.

but then again i like it kinda loud, my 13" flowmaster is pretty loud but i could still have it louder (and im looking at high flow cats to increase sound).

I went with a Magna 18" and I don't think it's too loud at all. I would be tempted to try a 14" but I would want to hear it first hand.

My "what's too loud" equation has a variable structure that may not come into play in some others:

Camping trip = hours towing trailer with wife in truck.

If loudness > wife volume threshold then wife happiness is inversely proportional to exhaust volume.

Happy wife = enjoyable trip.

Must arrive at balance between sufficient volume and happy wife.

(Besides, I don't want to listen to it drone on for hours, either!)

And remember, it's gonna get anywhere from a little to a lot louder once you've put several thousand miles on the thing.. So reserve judgement until after a couple k miles..

I originally thought my Borla sounded nice, but too quiet.. after about 2k miles it got a bit louder and now I think it's just perfect.. just what I was looking for.. so just give it some time before ya go swapping out for something that may be way too loud for you once it's "broken in"..

this is very true. ive put about 4k miles on my exhaust and it has gotten noticeably louder.

Sound is obviously Subjective. Everyone has different levels of loud as you can see from mSaLL150.

Ohio, the 24-inch 5x8 is ok for towing depending on the tip you use but I'd probably just stay with the one you have if it were me. I'm in the same boat with towing and having the lady or even clients in my truck and it's really annoying if it's loud. I'd rather talk to them normally than listen to exhaust for hours.

OhioLariat, if you want some more sound, get under and gut out the pre-cats/resonators infront of the cats, that will increase your idle sound a bit more.
