Exhaust tips

If I was to install just an aftermarket muffler and have it dumped under the bed will it effect any performance compared to having the pipe ran from the muffler out my rear and tips installed?

i started with mine run out the back. and after i dumped it i didnt notice a difference in performance. it was just alot louder =]
