Help locate an exhaust leak
Help locate an exhaust leak
97 Expedition has an exhaust leak. Can hear a very noticeable "tick tick tick" sound coming from under the vehicle up front when I have the passenger window down and accelerating (and no it's not a valve or anything with the engine itself clicking). Can't hear it when its parked and just revving the engine. Has to be under pressure. Just wondering if anyone knows where the main area for exhaust leaks occur and the way the fix it.
My truck has a exhaust leak as well. I have flowmaster 40. And mine leaks on the main pipe going to the muffler. Look for soot around the main pipe before the muffler or look for soot where the cats are. To fix it. try using JB Weld. or go to a muffler shop
im willing to bet its the passenger side rear most manifold bolt is busted off.its tough to get it there to see. a small flex mirror really helps. i wouldnt even bother with the jb weld. that will blow right out when u floor it lol. been there done that.

So does anyone have a how-to for replacing the manifold. It is very hard or should I leave it to a mechanic.

I've got 2 busted manifold bolts (one on each rear cylinder) and get the 'tick, tick, tick' deal when it's cold... Stops once it's warmed up....
I've been putting off fixing it, because it looks like a PITA job to do!! Sure, I feel I can do it, but I'm getting pretty lazy on such things it seems!!
I checked out some pricing from a custom exhaust shop and he wanted $600 plus the cost of all new studs to do the job... That was over a year ago too...
Also been debating putting on some shorty headers while it's all off?? Of course that's more $$... My manifolds are fine, it's just the studs have broken off.....
So, I haven't done anything!! How about that for a decision!.... UGH....
I've got to get this project done at some point....
