discolored rims

Today I noticed that my rims were starting to turn brown or discolored. I have a 97 ford f-150 that i cut the muffler off. Right now it is coming out infront of the tire causing the rim to turn colors how hard is it to run the exhaust behing the tire?

try washing the wheels once in a while it may help

seriously I have a side exit in front of the wheel and I have no issues with discoloratin, but i also have a muffler too

it is pretty simple to re route the exhaust, get a pre bent pipe from a muffelr shop or have them do it for you

Ford issued a TSB on the '97s that had the exhaust exiting just in front of the right side rear tire. On trucks with aluminum wheels, the exhaust gases caused them to get discoloration. Washing the wheels wont really do any good.
It wouldnt be all that hard to plumb the exhaust to exit behind the rear tire. A muffler shop should be able to do it for you for less than $200.

Your initial comment is that rims are turning brown. Just the one at the exhaust or all? I never had an issue with my '97 for 11 years. My '04 has the Lightning exhaust in front of the tire, again, no issues. Maybe there's something going on , like too rich. Just suggestions......

I know you're not trying to take a poll here, but I have a '97 with the same exhaust and no problems with the rims.

I also have my tires rotated every 5,000 or so miles. Even so, never noticed the slightest of problems.

he needs to give us more info and definantly post some pictures of what he is complaining about,

it could just be brake dust from lack of washing...

it was usually the center caps that discolored.. i had side exit on my truck for damn near 10 years and i cleaned my wheels and never really got any discoloration. because i have good fuel burn.. if u gettin alotta carbon on them probably need to do a seafoam treatment the cats are likely not functioning 100%
