Just installed AF1

Well I just installed my new 3" AF1 from Troyer's. First i must say that Anita from Troyer's was really nice answering all my questions and even took the time to go over the pros and cons of not only the products they offered, but other products on the market.

The truck is an 04' 5.4 3v supercrew with true duals 40' series flowmasters and 285 BFG ALT,

The install went smoot until i dropped the breather tube behind the damn altenator, that took about 45 min to find. Other than that, the instructions were easy to follow even for a noob like me who sticks to batteries, waterpumps, starters ect....

Now for performance, I can notice a change in throttle response from idle up to 4000rpms when i got on it on the highway. i can notice a small change in noise, no small is to much, miniscule noise from under the hood. The same with my exhaust, i dont notice its there until i really get on it. The intake does make myt exhaust sound better though. (Magnaflow---> what a ripoff of flowmaster when the patent went out, but thats another thread) I guess they weren't lying when they built the "quiet cab". Was it worth the 315 w shipping? To early to tell. I opened up the intake and exhaust to get the motor to breath better for more power and better gas mileage, because at 3.25 a gallon i drive with the lightest foot on earth! I hope this helps people decide on mods for their truck and i will let you no if i see any MPG change

Next on the list is a tuner, and that doesnt work i will sell this truck and buy a Gremlin!

Does this mean i have to take the K&N sticker off of my truck? (by the way the k&n did nothing for my stock truck. might has well been a cheap 2$ paper filter)

I chose the AF1 from the info i got on this site! Thanks guys!

Nice job on the AF1.

But - what's that mean? 'Slows' use silly little baffles: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...96&postcount=2

Maggies are straight-through.

All i can say is you really need to get rid of that true duel set up your running.I have had the same system as you and it sucks I never beleived it either until i switched. My truck would dog it until about 3000RPM before it would start picking up good.I switched to a true duel setup using 14in magnaflow rounds and it has more power than ever and sounds better. It would never break loose with the flows and it does now with maggies.IMO the best next mod you can do is get rid of the flows. If you keep them your missing out,up to you

my thoughts of maggies https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...=285509&page=2

I too just installed my exhaust (JBA, not magna because it wasnt a direct bolt on for my truck) and the AF1 exhaust. I love the sound of the motor with this intake. It's like night and day. Trucks should be coming from the factory this way for cryin out loud. I also have it tuned with the Superchips tuner. Very impressed. I just bought some 4.10 gears to put in.

Gotta love gettin bitten by the performance bug!

Now i will admitt that i lost some low end torque putting on the flows. Is it a HUGE deal? I would say no. The biggest thing i haul is a 17ft enclosed trailor, and it still hauls it just fine, its just that its the wind that catches it, My friends Z71 tows that trailor about the same so i am not concerned that much. With my 16ft boat back there or my dunebuggy I cannot tell a difference., let alone I have to check back there to make sure its still there. LOL What can i say I love the flowmaster sound, and it would take a hell of lot of loss to change my mind. I understand where Troyer is coming from with the magnaflow muffler and research, but i am not keen on the sound. Remember I am a mustang man, so the flow has a place in my heart!

I drove about a 100 miles today, and still like the AF1. Still not noisy so thats good. Throttle response is still noticeable. Doubt i will get the custom tunes, too expensive and who wants to wait 6 weeks? Not me, maybe an edge later on...

To the other guys thread, You couldnt break em loose with my setup? I could break it loose stock, do you have the 5.4? Even with the 285 BFG ALT i can break em loose easily.....hmmm?

I should get some more info on MPG, I plan on taking a trip to the dunes in 3weeks and i will be hauling my 17ft toy box

My truck has the 5.4,different motor than your truck though. My truck would break them loose with stock exhaust.I did true duels with flows and after that it no longer would break them loose by punching it from a stop.I switched to magnaflows and now it runs better than ever.Ya i agree with you that the flows sound good but they seemed to mess with low end power on my truck.Maybe it doesn't affect the new ones as much but it did mine.

Oh BTW let us know how you make out when you add the Edge to your AF1 and exhaust.Same thing i was running,MGDfan knows what i'm talking about

Actually Edge is just as much as the Xcal II & Troyer custom tunes, unless you find a used one and get it for cheaper. Trust me when I tell you the wait is worth it. I waited 2 full months and sure it sucked, but after a few days driving the truck with the Troyer tunes it has proven to be well worth the wait.

Eh mufflers are overrated. Cut the muffler off and put a Y-pipe to dual it out. :-D Just as good as a maggie, if not better.

How the Hell is that better?Replacing a muffler that is proven to gain torque and horsepower with straightpipes that usually creates a loss of torque on these trucks Explain please!!!!
